Exports were driven mainly by automobile CBU and CKD units, which accounted for 59,021 million baht, or 60.5% of total export value; followed by motorcycle CBU and CKD units and part kits at 22,768 million baht, representing 23.3% of the total value; and power products at 12,019 million baht, or 12.3% of the total export value. Remaining exports included spare parts, accessories and dies & molds worth 3,758 million baht, or 3.9% of the total export value. Mr. Fumihiko Ike, President & CEO, Asian Honda Motor Co., Ltd. said, "Honda has consistently grown the value and volume of product exports from Thailand throughout the years. While Honda's exports dropped in 2009 due to the global economic downturn, the company saw a solid recovery in 2010 thanks to the strength of our business in Thailand as well as customers' trust in the quality of our products. We anticipate even further growth in the year ahead, expecting exports from Thailand in 2011 to exceed 100 billion baht. “Honda is starting 2011 with an expanded manufacturing base for several new models. For motorcycles, we started exporting the new CBR250R, Thailand’s premium sport model, in January 2011. For automobiles, with the global trend towards small cars and to support the Eco-Car project promoted by the Thai Government, Honda plans to export a new compact model called the BRIO to various countries, mainly in the ASEAN region. We hope all these efforts will help boost Honda’s export value in this near future,” added Mr. Ike. Automobiles: The total value of Honda’s automobile CBU and CKD exports in 2010 continued to grow to 37%, or 59,021 million baht, thanks to strong demand in Australia and various countries in Asia. Total exports of automobile CBUs in 2010 grew 52% by volume to 57,985 units and 48% by value to 30,591 million baht. Total automobile CKD exports in 2010 increased 27% by value to 28,430 million baht. Jazz, City and Civic were the best-selling models with 12,944, 12,728 and 12,695 units respectively accounting for 66.1% of the total export volume. This clearly reflects the growing global trend towards small cars. Honda plans to export the BRIO, an eco-car produced under the Thai government initiative, to many countries throughout the ASEAN region. Motorcycles: The total export value of motorcycle products in 2010 grew 40% over the previous year to 22,768 million baht. Motorcycle CBUs significantly grew 477% by volume to 58,904 units and 541% by value to 3,506 million baht. Motorcycle CKDs grew 22% by value to 19,261 million baht in 2010, largely due to increased production in major markets such as Vietnam and Indonesia. Honda exports various models of motorcycle CBUs, but primarily the Innova, PCX, CBR125R, CBR150R and most recently CBR250R from Thailand to over 40 countries worldwide. The major success in 2010 was the PCX model for which Thailand is the global manufacturing base with exports to many countries worldwide such as ASEAN, Europe, Japan and the United States. In late 2010 Honda announced it would produce the CBR250R model in Thailand as a global model for export to various countries in the ASEAN region, Europe and North America, as well as Japan and Australia. The company started exporting the CBR250R in January 2011 which is expected to help boost Honda’s export value in Q1 2011. Power Products: Thailand is Honda’s primary global production and export base for its power products, which are currently exported to over 80 countries around the world including key markets in Asia & Oceania, the United States and Europe. Total exports of power products including CBUs and CKDs grew 55% by volume to 2,053,469 units and 50% by value to 12,019 million baht in 2010, largely due to market expansion in the region of Asia and Oceania. Other exports: In addition to its three primary export product lines, Honda also exports spare parts, accessories, jigs and molds from Thailand to many global markets. Exports of these supporting products rose 3% with a total value of 3,758 million baht in 2010. Honda is one of the world’s leading producers of advanced technology mobility products.
