Bangkok--10 Feb--Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit Due to popular demand from the jazz community, the “King of Swing” is back in town! In March, The Living Room, Bangkok’s premier live jazz venue, welcomes the return of the renowned Jeremy Monteiro International Trio for two weeks of outstanding jazz. Dubbed the “King of Swing”, Jeremy Monteiro has been hailed as "one of the best exponents of the jazz piano". During his illustrious career he has recorded more than 20 jazz albums and played on numerous others. As well as being a professional musician, Jeremy is a dedicated educator and is Visiting Chair of Jazz and Professor at LaSalle College of the Arts in Singapore. He is also the recipient of the prestigious Cultural Medallion for Arts Achievement in Singapore, the first jazz musician in Singapore to be awarded the accolade. Jeremy Monteiro is held in high esteem by fellow musicians and music journalists alike. Legendary harmonica player, Toots Thielemans, is quoted as saying simply, “Jeremy.....what a revelation!” Following a performance of Jeremy, writer Ian Patterson of All About Jazz said, “Whether playing a blues, a lilting samba or soul-inflected jazz, or heating up the keys on a straight-ahead workout, Monteiro's music always swings.” During the unforgettable performances at The Living Room, the Jeremy Monteiro International Trio will feature the gifted drummer, Shawn Kelley and Thailand’s foremost bassist, Therdsak Wongvichien. Shawn Kelley was raised in Syracuse, New York and studied jazz under the tutelage of Ron Carter, John Lewis, Gil Evans, and Sonny Igoe. After years of playing on the New York jazz scene, Shawn relocated to Asia where he is always in high demand. Shawn is an extremely versatile drummer and spans the entire dynamic spectrum of jazz, from the most sensitive nuance to driving and explosive drum solos. Therdsak Wongvichien is considered one of Thailand’s leading exponents of the bass. Born in Bangkok, he studied his BA in Music Education at Srinakharinwirot University. Therdsak has been a part of the Bangkok jazz and music scene for almost two decades and is a regular fixture at The Living Room.
