Bangkok--28 Feb--Anantara Golden Triangle Resort & Spa Anantara Golden Triangle Resort & Spa invites guests to experience a fun-filled, Thai northern styled splash of festivities at the Songkran festival from April 13th-15th, 2011. All of Anantara’s guests can take part in celebrating this traditional Thai holiday with the local folks and Thailand’s sacred animal — the elephants. Guests are free to take part or witness the cultural ceremonies, activities, competitions, contests, parades, and more in the village of Chiang Saen. Holding a record of one of the best places to celebrate Songkran in the Chiang Rai province, Chiang Saen boasts of lively unique local experiences. Along the streets, processions of Buddha images are carried throughout the city. Revelers can participate in the ancient bathing ritual performed as a gesture of worship and thanksgiving to the water spirit. Gently douse Buddha statues with sanctified water for good luck, before turning to look on in amazement at the yearly “Miss Songkran” parade; a parade presenting beautiful contestants on floats, all vying for the coveted title of the beauty pageant. Sample local delicacies and take part in the myriad of booths offering food, games, and goods for a reasonable price in Chiang Saen town. Stay on until later in the night to feel the ambience of a local concert, comedy show, and the judging of the “Miss Songkran” beauty pageant. The widely popular Songkran festival is derived from the Thai word that means “to move” or “change place” as it is the day where the sun shifts its position in the zodiac. More commonly known as Thailand’s Water Festival, it is believed that water will wash away a person’s negativity and bad luck. Shuttle services will be provided to take interested guests to all the main festival areas for a chance to join the chaotic fray. Guests can also opt for a water fight free zone (at certain specified times and places) and select a serene Songkran instead. Enjoy a welcome cocktail with Lanna’s traditional painting to absorb the atmosphere of Ancient Lanna Arts, this will combine with Local Lanna Market and cuisines followed by a special Northern Thai Khantoke Set Dinner in Lanna style, served al fresco on Anantara’s Sala Mae Nam terrace, whilst taking in the tropical night sky at THB 1,500++ per person For more information, please call +66 2 (0) 5378 4084 or visit www.anantara.com
