THAI Organizes Rescue Flights for Thais out of Libya

Bangkok--3 Mar--Thai Airways Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) makes arrangements and special THAI flight to bring Thais in Libya to Thailand, through Tunisia, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Mr. Piyasvasti Amranand, THAI President, said the airline has arranged a special THAI flight to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, according to the request by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, to bring back Thais who were in Libya. The logistics include THAI arranging a charter flight for the Thai people, who had been evacuated from Libya to the neighboring country of Tunisia, to be flown to Dubai where they will catch the special THAI flight back to Bangkok, Thailand. The following are arrangements taken by THAI: 1. THAI has arranged for charter flights, aircraft type L1011, from Dubai to fly to Tunisia between the period 4-13 March 2011, to transport Thais from Tunisia to Dubai. 2. THAI has arranged a special THAI flight from Dubai to Bangkok, Thailand to bring the evacuated Thais back to Thailand. The special THAI flight, utilizing the Boeing 777-300 aircraft, will depart Bangkok on 4 March 2011 at 1705 hours (Bangkok time) and arrive back in Bangkok on 5 March 2011 at 0740 hours (Bangkok time). 3. During the period 4-13 March 2011, for the daily scheduled flights on TG518 from Dubai to Bangkok, THAI has arranged for the aircraft type with increased seating capacity so the flights could carry the Thai passengers who were evacuated from Libya through Tunisia. 4. During 5-13 March 2011, another route to bring Thais back to Thailand includes THAI changing the flight route Bangkok-Athens-Bangkok to be Bangkok-Athens-Tunisia-Athens-Bangkok, in order to evacuate the Thai people who had evacuated from Libya into Tunisia. THAI will continue to monitor and evaluate the situation, along with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in case there is a need to change flight plans in transporting Thai people from Libya to Thailand.
