Update on THAI Rescue Flights for Thais out of Libya

Bangkok--7 Mar--Thai Airways International Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) updates on its arrangements and special THAI flights to bring Thais in Libya to Thailand, through Tunisia, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Mr. Piyasvasti Amranand, THAI President, said the airline, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, has made flight arrangements for the period 4-14 March 2011 for evacuating Thais who have left Libya and waiting in Tunisia to catch flights back to Thailand. THAI has arranged charter flights from Dubai to fly Thais from Tunisia to Dubai from 4-13 March 2011, carrying an estimated total of 3,500 persons. Special flights. THAI has arranged a total of six special THAI flights from Dubai to Bangkok to operate on 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 March 2011, with the first flight departing Bangkok for Dubai on 4 March 2011 at 1640 hours (Bangkok time) and arriving back in Bangkok on 5 March 2011 at 0715 hours (Bangkok time). The aircraft for this flight is the Boeing 777-300 with a seating capacity of 330 seats. For the remaining special flights, the aircraft will be the Airbus 300-600 with a seating capacity of 245 seats.2. Route adjustment and aircraft type. THAI has adjusted the Bangkok-Athens-Bangkok route to be Bangkok-Athens-Tunisia-Athens-Bangkok for 5, 7, 10, 12, and 14 March 2011. The aircraft for these flights will be changed from the regular scheduled flight, for greater seating capacity of each flight. 3. Available seats on scheduled flights. THAI has arranged to fill the available seats on the regular scheduled flights from Dubai to Bangkok, TG 518, for the evacuees during the period 5-13 March 2011. With this flight evacuation plan to rescue Thais from the Libyan crisis, THAI can transport an estimated total of 4,000 persons, as advised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. THAI is able to support with this evacuation plan without affecting other scheduled flights in the network, and will continue to monitor and evaluate the situation, along with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as the requirements change.
