Bangkok--16 Mar--Hill & Knowlton Expansion of Express air route system between Europe, Asia Pacific and Middle East by AeroLogic? US$22.5 million investment to expand its U.S hub at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky airport DHL, the world’s leading logistics company, has strengthened its leading market position in the global cross-border express business by introducing three new air express routes between Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific served by AeroLogic, the joint venture cargo airline of DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo. It also announced the US$22.5 million investment to expand its hub facility at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky airport to meet the growing demands of international shipping customers. Ken Allen, Chief Executive Officer of DHL Express, emphasized that the latest network enhancements significantly contribute to further building DHL’s leading position. “We are proud to spearhead developments that improve the connectivity of markets. There is a continuously high demand for express transport of goods and documents between key markets in Europe, Asia Pacific and EEMEA, and our new routes will provide customers with more flexibility and add capacity where it is needed.” DHL Express recently launched an early bird connection from Hong Kong to its main European hub in Leipzig, Germany. The addition enables the company to now offer westbound DHL Express Worldwide next-day delivery service from one of the most important markets in the world. The company also added a new Bangkok stop to its Leipzig-Singapore-New Delhi route to improve speed of delivery to the important Southeast Asian market. A new Brussels to Bahrain route adds to the existing Leipzig to Bahrain connection and enhances DHL Express’ ability to serve a high-demand trade lane that connects European and American markets to the Middle East. “The new Bangkok stop has not only strengthens DHL’s strong global air network, it also underscores our commitment to the Thai market and enhances the express service capability from Bangkok to Europe,” says Chananyarak Phetcharat, Managing Director, DHL Express Thailand and Indochina. Another major development is the US$22.5 million expansion of the U.S. hub at Cincinnati/ Northern Kentucky Airport which will start in March 2011. DHL will build on 19 acres of land leased from the CVG Airport authority to expand its existing aircraft parking apron and construct nine new aircraft gates. The expansion will enable parking for nine additional wide-body aircraft that will connect the United States to points in Asia, Europe and the Americas. All new aircraft gates will include a hydrant jet refueling system for a more efficient refueling operation as well as the capability to de-ice aircraft directly at the gate. Construction will continue through September 2011. This is the second phase of a two year, $40 million investment to enhance DHL operations at the Cincinnati hub which includes equipment upgrades and various facility improvements. In October 2010, DHL announced a $12.5 million project to upgrade existing hardware and software applications running its auto sort system, improving the speed and reliability of shipment scanning and sorting as volumes grow at the Cincinnati hub. The CVG hub handles about 90% of the DHL volume that enters the U.S. “As businesses increasingly go global to capitalize on emerging trends in international trade, the expansion at our CVG hub will position DHL to accommodate the growing needs of our importing and exporting customers,” said Ian Clough, CEO for DHL Express U.S. Media Contact: DHL Express Thailand Parichart Pramukkul Marketing Manager Tel: 0-2345-5622 Fax: 0-285-5524 Email: [email protected] Hill & Knowlton Thailand Orawan Chuenwiratsakul Tel: 0-2627-3501 Fax: 0-2627-3510 Email:[email protected]
