Bangkok--16 Mar--Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding
Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding Public Company Limited ("Ratchaburi Holding") has recently entered into a 40 per cent Share Purchase and Shareholders Agreement of Ratchaburi World Cogeneration Co., Ltd. with Thai World Group. Such agreement will entitle the company to be a joint developer of two Small Power Producer (SPP) projects in Ratchaburi Industrial Park. These two 112-MW cogeneration power projects have combined capacity of 224 MW, each with 20-ton steam capacity per hour. The Commercial Operation Date will be in 2014.
Mr. Noppol Milinthanggoon, President of Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding PCL. stated that the 90 MW electricity generation of each project will be sold to Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) under the 25-year Power Purchase Agreements whilst the rest of generated electricity and steam will be supplied and sold directly to industrial companies located in Ratchaburi Industrial Estate. As a result, it will contribute to Ratchaburi Holding's stable income and strengthen its profit sharing. According to its shareholding, the two SPP projects will enhance the Company's generating capacity to 4,622 Megawatts in 2014.
Ratchaburi World Cogeneration Co., Ltd. has been awarded the bid winner for power selling of two SPP projects to EGAT followed by the approval of the subcommittee of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) according to the solicitation for 2,000 MW power purchase from SPPs on December 29, 2010. Currently, the projects are under the development stage and are scheduled to start electricity and steam generation commercially in 2014.
"In addition in securing the power supply system in Thailand particularly during the power's peak demand, these two co-generation projects will, in turn, reduce the government's investment burden on IPP power projects. The co-generation technology has 80 per cent more efficiency rate than the current system, which only produces 40 — 50 per cent efficiency rate. Also, the heat from the co-generation technology can be utilized in other energy forms such as steam, which can be sold to near-by factories. This will help save energy costs for manufacturers and support the competitiveness of Thailand’s industry sector,” said Mr. Noppol in closing.
