Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) clarifies ticket-pricing policy as a result of customer criticism.
Mr. Piyasvasti Amranand, THAI President, said that THAI does not have an inappropriate pricing policy or a policy that takes advantage during turmoil situations. The THAI ticket pricing practice follows what most other carriers practice in selling tickets, that is, through the use of a revenue management system that controls reservations.
The ticket fares are determined automatically by the revenue management system, which is based on the timing of the reservations and the capacity for each flight. Reservations made close to travel dates on nearly full flights would see a higher fare than for reservations made well in advance of the travel date. In short, ticket price is determined by when and by seat availability at the time of ticket purchase.
In addition, for all tickets purchased (out of the originating country) the fares would be according to the normal IATA Published Fare, which is higher than if purchased within the originating country. Promotional fares can only be applied in the originating country, and are not allowed to be sold in other markets.
For the recent special fares promotion from Japan to Thailand, announced on 16 March 2011, THAI deemed it necessary to facilitate Thais wanting to return to Thailand in the immediate time through the special fares. THAI was able to offer this only after assessing the potential radiation impact to those in Japan. The promotional fares from Narita to Bangkok and from Haneda to Bangkok were for economy class and started at THB 16,000 (including all surcharges and other fees). On 17 March 2011 THAI announced the promotional fare could be applied for all originating cities in Japan that THAI operated from (Narita, Haneda, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka) to Bangkok.
For THAI tickets purchased to and from Bangkok and Japan, for travel during 11 March to 30 April 2011, THAI will waive all fees for any refund and flight changes made within 30 April 2011.
During 17-31 March 2011, seat availability on flights from Japan is at 20 percent. Passengers wishing to travel to Thailand should make reservations and contact ticket offices at the following numbers:
