Bangkok--29 Mar--Ensign Media Thai PM on Bangkok Development In an exclusive interview with Property Report South Eat Asia Magazine, Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva recently identified Bangkok's Rama III area, which he represented when first elected to Parliament, as a potential location for significant development. Likening the area to London's Canary Wharf, the Thai PM said that the Rama III area benefits from a high volume of undeveloped land close to the river and city centre. Over the years, successive governments have helped create some of the city’s best transport infrastructure, including the iconic new bridge, which opened last year and was blessed by His Majesty. "The opening of the bridges has set a high standard that will inspire other projects around it, said Abhisit. " On Rama III, with the bridges and other infrastructure in place, developers have already begun to circulate ideas for new projects not considered before". The Prime Minister also raised the possibility that in the coming decades Rama III could undergo a regeneration that may transform its future, turning the area into a successful residential and business district and consequently driving investment, jobs and better housing, as well as creating a new iconic skyline. "Bangkokians are creative by nature, and so in areas like Rama III there will be no shortage of bold and imaginative ideas, he said. " The challenge is always to give those diverse ideas both coherence and scale,so that they can become real." Abhisit also addressed Thailand’s urban and rural development, saying that both sectors should move forward hand in hand. "Each needs the success of the other in order to thrive and both urban and rural areas share the need for the environment to be clean and protected if we are to preserve and improve our quality of life".
