Bangkok--9 Apr--Marriott Hotels
In at least 60 minutes, various Marriott properties of Thailand engaged and encouraged the power down of lights, dimmed lights, activities and gatherings for Earth Hour’s global purpose. Marriott Hotels Thailand initiated inspiring effective action for the environment between 8.30pm-9.30pm on Saturday 26th March 2011 at the various properties in the country.
Earth hour was first introduced on 31st March 2007 when millions of Sydney residents and several businesses switched of their lights to show concern for rising temperatures around the world and the need for urgent solutions. In the years to follow ‘Earth Hour’ became a global event and in 2010 people from 128 countries took part in this event.
Keeping in line with our “Spirit to Serve” corporate value, Marriott Hotels Thailand have shared with its guests and patrons its concern through an evening from as little as turning lights off from 7pm to unified fun filled activities at the “Temple Fair’’ by the poolside at the Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok which included delicious cuisine and dessert, music and projected movies. It was even discovered that within just 60 minutes of down lighting have saved Renaissance Ratchaprasong Bangkok Hotel 4 times the electricity cost than it normally would. Down South, Thai buffet dinner was provided at the JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa under a candle light environment and more importantly lights and air-conditioning were turned off than the usual non-essential lights which decreased up to 225,000 kilowatts in 60 minutes. Life was lit in the darkness by the gathering of guests at the Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa’s “Sense of Belonging” in powering down non-essential lighting including BBQ cocktails under the candle light at Sand Box and a fun cool hang out restaurant located at the Mai Khao Beach front.
“The Earth Hour celebration was amazing. It provides the opportunity for all of us to gather and create the better life together even it was just 60 minutes”, said Mr. Jason Nuell - General Manager of Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa. “As part of the Corporate Social Responsibility, we always participate and ensure that all practices in our resort support the global sustainability. We always live up to our commitment to leave this world a better place to discover”.
And as long as there is room for global improvement, Marriott properties will continue to take part of global initiatives by honoring simply our spirit to serving one another.
