Microsoft Cloud for Business Conference 2011:Eliminating Technology from ITMicrosoft’s Cloud Computing platform is changing the way businesses run from inside and out, creating more efficiency and helping provide better service
The advent of cloud computing has resulted in unprecedented ways for companies and organizations to fully utilize new software and services. Today, business applications make use of real-time analytics to interact with both colleagues and customers, enabling companies to provide clients with what they need exactly when they need it. IDC predicts that 2011 will see a sharp increase in the use of cloud technologies for IT infrastructure with new cloud services that will enable companies to look beyond the basics of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) to benefit from business services that will help their organization stay ahead. In this conference, IDC will discuss how companies can leverage these new services and technologies in ways that connect them more directly to their customers and those in need of services.
One way that Microsoft’s cloud computing technology helps organizations connect with citizens is through the Microsoft Disaster Response information Azure portal which supports an active response effort for the NGO Second Harvest Japan, to enable efficient and effective communication around local food donation and distribution sites. The recent flooding in Thailand southern provinces can also benefit from this kind of cloud service designed to assist those who are helping others in times of natural disaster.
“Cloud computing has brought on new approaches to software and services. It is also accelerating a change in the fundamental structure of business applications. As real-time analytics can be embedded into almost every system, virtually every area of the enterprise is not only capable of using social media, web-based communications and even mobile services as a direct way of collaborate with customers — it also allows them to analyze in real-time what the customer needs and when they need it. It is crucial for companies to leverage these new services and technologies in ways that connect them more directly to their customers. In Thailand, IDC believes that the Cloud computing and related services will be widely adopted in the near future.” Attaphon Satidkanitkul, Research Manager, IDC Thailand.
At the end of the day, cloud computing provides an IT framework where business managers can fully manage, procure and consume all the services, processes and systems they require to ensure that their business runs with efficiency and flexibility. Through this IT framework, the perception of cloud computing will evolve from being a technology to simply a necessary service.
Prasopchoke Pramongkit, Ph.D., National Technology Director, Microsoft Thailand Limited says, “Businesses should expect the power of the cloud without compromising the privacy, security or control that they have come to expect from business software. Microsoft, bringing over 20 years' experience with business software and almost 15 years' experience with cloud computing, is completely committed to the cloud, making most of our widely-used products available in the cloud today.”
Cloud computing technology not only helps organizations provide better and more immediate service their clients, but also helps companies compete locally and globally with great economic value. As businesses and organisations begin using the applications of cloud computing, many are able to expand their methods of virtualisation, automation and standardisation. While these changes take place, companies are also realizing the cloud is characterized by a change in how IT consumer services are delivered to and consumed by the customer.
“With cloud computing reshaping the way IT delivers services to consumers, the perception of IT as a cost center is giving way to an appreciation of IT’s true role as a powerful growth engine for the business. With this shift comes a growing need for sophisticated management and security, allowing enterprises to change how they think about IT to reap the full rewards that cloud computing offers — agility, efficiency and scalability.” Wallapa Piemnoppakao, Director, CA Technologies, Thailand.
