HP is expanding its ProLiant G7 portfolio to include four updated servers based on the Intel? Xeon? processor E7-8800/4800/2800 product families (Intel Xeon E7 family). Optimized for scale-up environments, the latest HP ProLiant servers offer advancements in resiliency, scalability and efficiency.
Delivering up to a 40 percent increase in performance over the previous generation,(1) the latest HP ProLiant servers are built to handle growing amounts of data, providing clients with the performance and reliability needed to support large, complex workloads. The new line includes updated HP ProLiant BL680c G7 and HP ProLiant DL580 G7 servers based on the Intel Xeon E7-4800 family processors as well as the HP ProLiant BL620c G7 and HP ProLiant DL980 G7 servers based on the Intel Xeon E7-2800 and E7-4800 family processors.(2)
The HP ProLiant servers based on the latest Intel Xeon E7 family processors include a new Intel Scalable Memory Buffer that offers unparalleled levels of memory to maximize application performance and compute power. This also provides the increased flexibility clients need to handle memory-intensive workloads by doubling the memory capacity of the servers.
Additional benefits include:
— System availability increased by 38 percent using Double Device Data Correction (DDDC), which provides self-correction of up to two dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) errors and recovery from otherwise fatal system errors.(3,4)
— Enhanced protection from a system crash, allowing a server to recover from uncorrectable memory errors with HP Memory Quarantine in conjunction with operating system support.(4,5)
— Increased security performance and efficiency with Intel Advanced Encryption Standard New Instructions (Intel AES-NI) and reduced malicious software attacks with Intel Trusted Execution Environment (Intel TXT).(4)
— Improved management productivity while reducing operational expenses by up to $73,482 for every 100 users by allowing clients to control the management and monitoring of the server infrastructure onsite or remotely with HP Insight Control.(6)
— Simplified server management from any location, regardless of the server’s operating state with HP Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) Advanced.
— Reduced issue resolution time by 20 percent with secure remote support for HP servers and storage, including monitoring for hardware failure to avoid problems before they occur due to HP Insight Remote Support software.(7)
In addition, energy-efficiency innovations in the HP ProLiant platforms, combined with the new Intel Xeon E7 processors include:
— Decreased memory power requirements with 1.35V low voltage DIMMs for savings up to 15 to 20 percent in terms of watts per DIMM.
— Enhanced efficiency through a lower-power Intel Scalable Memory Buffer, resulting in a power savings up to 155 watts per 256GB of memory.
— Lowered server active and idle states with Intel Intelligent Power Technology (Intel IPT).
— Reduced power consumption by as much as 96 percent with HP Thermal Logic.(8)
HP ProLiant servers are part of the HP Converged Infrastructure portfolio, which is a core component of an Instant-On Enterprise. In a world of continuous connectivity, the Instant-On Enterprise embeds technology in everything it does to serve customers, employees, partners and citizens with whatever they need, instantly.
Pricing and availability
The HP ProLiant BL620c G7, HP ProLiant BL680c G7 and HP ProLiant DL580 G7 servers based on Intel Xeon E7 family processors are available now and the HP ProLiant DL980 G7 server based on Intel Xeon E7 family processors will be available in June 2011.
Prices for the updated HP ProLiant G7 servers with Intel Xeon E7 processors start at 180,000 baht and vary based on specific configurations.(9)
As a special promotion, customers who purchase the HP ProLiant DL580 G7 servers will receive a free HP OfficeJet 6500A Plus as well as have access to a special price for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard/Enterprise and HP Care Pack upgrade to be 24x7 for 3 years. The promotion will end on 31 July 2011.(10)
(1) Based on estimated OLTP performance comparing the Intel Xeon X7560 to the E7-4870 processor. Performance is based on HP and Intel estimates and will vary depending application, system configuration, tuning, etc.
(2) The BL620c G7, BL680c G7 and DL580c G7 also support the E7 family low-voltage processor E7-8867L.
(3) DDDC reduces system hardware crash rate by 38 percent compared to the same configuration with SDDC (Single Device Data Correction).
(4) DDDC, HP Memory Quarantine and Intel TXT are “Ready” features. Ready is defined as the hardware is capable of supporting the feature with only a future planned software upgrade required to enable.
(5) HP Memory Quarantine (also known as Intel MCA Recovery) requires operating system support; features and capabilities may differ between operating systems.
(6) Based on an IDC White Paper sponsored by HP, "Gaining Business Value and ROI with HP Insight Control," Doc # 224704, Sept 2010. Actual value of $73,482 over 3 years.
(7) Based on HP data analysis on equipment monitored by Insight Remote Support compared to equipment without Insight Remote Support monitoring.
(8) Based on HP internal testing: 96 percent reduction in energy and cooling; 23 G4 servers @ 394 watts — 1 DL385G7 server @ 323; 8,739 watts eliminated; 8739 ? 9062 = 96.4 percent @ 100 percent load.
