DHL helps customers in Thailand enter China market

Bangkok--13 May--Hill & Knowlton Launches Chinese Helpdesk to provide useful information for doing business in China Shares insights on the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement and latest customs regulations DHL Express, the world’s leading express company, recently set up a DHL Express China Helpdesk, to assist customers in doing business in China. The DHL Express China Helpdesk, features Chinese staff who can communicate in Thai and Mandarin, and is mainly designed to ensure smooth day-to-day operations, to facilitate the communications process and to provide professional consultation to customers. In addition to the Helpdesk, DHL Express also recently organized a “No One Knows China Like We Do” seminar where academics and DHL Express specialists shared comprehensive information with their customers. Chananyarak Phetcharat, Managing Director, DHL Express Thailand and Indochina, said, “Today, China is the world's second largest economy after the United States with the foreign exchange reserves surging to a record 2.6 trillion US dollars. In 2010, China’s GDP increased by 10.3 per cent from a year earlier[1]. This makes China a major driving force at both regional and global levels. “In Thailand, operators are taking advantage of new business opportunities in China. Nevertheless, there remain a number of challenges such as the language barrier. In order to avoid these common pitfalls, operators are urged to better understand the latest import and export regulations to ensure that they can quickly take advantage of investment opportunities in China as soon as they present themselves. As the “Provider of Choice”, DHL takes a long-term view of our trade facilitator role in the local economy by working closely with customers to understand their changing needs. The launch of the China Helpdesk and the China seminar are central to our long-term plans to better serve our customers, who are well suited to doing business in China.” Dr. Aksornsri Phanishsarn, Assistant Profess and Director of ERTC, Faculty of Economics, Thammasat University, spoke during the seminar on how Thailand can gain from the Asean-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA). She said, “China represents tremendous market opportunities for Thai operators, after ASEAN and China jointly signing the ACFTA. Since 2010, this free trade agreement reduced tariffs on 7,881 product categories, or 90 per cent of their traded goods, to zero rate.” Dr Chackrit Duangphastra, Director of the Bureau of Asian Affairs at the Department of Trade Negotiations, discussed the Government’s support on trading with China. He said, “The Foreign Trade Department has set up FTA Fund to help Thai operators to adapt themselves and to improve efficiency in response to the liberalization.
