Ministry of Tourism, Government of India is organising an Incredible India Road Shows to promote Buddhist Heritage Places and new highlights of rich and glorious Indian Culture in Bangkok, Vietnam, and Cambodia.
As part is this initiative the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India organized a road show in Hotel Shangri La in Bangkok, Thailand on 9th May, 2011. The event showcased India’s varied tourism destinations and products including rich Indian Buddhist heritage. As the world is aware that Lord Buddha attained ‘enlightenment’ under a Bodhi tree in Bodhgaya and attained Nirvana in Kushinagar. Both these places are of immense importance to all.
The road show had three segments; a know India seminar, press conference and reception with Indian cuisine and cultural performance. The event gave Indian and Thai Tourism Industry to come together in the spirit of cooperation for doing business together.
Mr. Anand Kumar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, Indian Tour Operators and Buddhist scholars to attend the Road Show. This event would be followed by two more Road Shows in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) and Phnom Penh (Cambodia) to be held on 11th and 13th May respectively. India sees immense potential in ASEAN source markets due to geographical proximity, age old ties and Buddhist affinity.
India received 67,309 tourists from Thailand in 2009 and expects the arrivals to grow further due great interest shown by Thai tourists in travelling to India. The eternal lure of Buddha, India’s cultural and natural diversity and good air connectivity between the two countries would help realize this growth.
Mr. Anand Kumar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India said “Due to India’s strong & vibrant economy and an increasingly favourable business and investment climate India has established a firm place in the world map. India tourism today is growing at a rate of around 10% and the country has become a preferred business, leisure, adventure and spiritual destination, he states.
Mr. Kumar emphasized that “Thailand is a key partner in India’s growth especially from Tourism point of view. He stressed that India destinations and products need to be promoted to all segments of Thai Nationals so they can rejoice rich cultural, natural and spiritual heritage of India.
He appealed to Thai Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Industry to actively involve in India tourism promotions for mutual benefits.”
