TSF Volunteers honored by AIT

Bangkok--23 May--AIT Volunteers and team members of T?l?coms Sans Fronti?re (TSF) were honored at a special event organized by the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). Chairman, Board of Trustees, AIT and Former Foreign Minister of Thailand, H.E. Dr. Tej Bunnag hosted a lunch for AIT's volunteers to TSF and other TSF team members on 19 May 2011. H.E. Dr. Tej Bunnag also drew upon his experience as Assistant Secretary General of the Thai Red Cross Society. He inquired about the operations of TSF and complimented AIT students for volunteering to conduct disaster relief work. H.E. Mr. Sohail Mahmood, Ambassador of Pakistan to Thailand mentioned the role played by the corporate sector in Thailand in disaster relief operations in Pakistan. Three of the volunteers, Mr. Furqan Ali Shaikh from Pakistan, Mr. Hung Ling from Myanmar, and Ms. Albane Coeurquetin from France narrated their experience in disaster relief operations. While Furqan was deployed in the immediate aftermath of the floods in Pakistan in September 2010, Mr. Ling was deployed in Thailand. Ms. Albane worked as TSF volunteer after the Indonesian tsunami in November 2010. Prof. Said Irandoust, President AIT appreciated the partnership with TSF and said AIT is glad to be host to organizations which are engaged in humanitarian work. Mr. Oisin Walton, TSF Delegate for Asia and the Pacific explained the history and range of operations of TSF. Mr. Olivier Drean, Coordinator, French Cooperation, and Advisor to Administration represented the Ambassador of France to Thailand. Others who attended included Ms. Sirichorn Dejdecha, logistics and administration coordinator, TSF; Ms. Buntarika Susuk, intern, TSF; Mr. Karma Rana, Institute Secretary, AIT; and Ms. Kulvimol Wasuntiwongse, Secretary to the Board, AIT.
