The Japan Foundation, the Department of Dramatic Arts and the Department of Japanese Language, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University are pleased to invite Professor Hirata Oriza, a renowned playwright, theatre director, lecturer at Osaka University and the founder of Seinendan Theatre to direct an innovative play entitled “Sayonara” in both Thai- and Japanese-language versions during November 23-27 on the occasion of the Chula Academic Fair and Bangkok Theatre Festival 2011.
Sayonara is a radical new way of presenting theatre using a human being and an android, the latter of which was co-created by Professor Hirata and Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro of ATR Intelligent Robotics and Communication Laboratories. The production was performed in October 2010 at Festival/Tokyo 2010, a major international theatre festival and it is also scheduled to be performed at the International Federation for Theatre Research (IFTR) event that will be hosted by Osaka University this coming August.
Apart from the above-mentioned performances, the Japan Foundation and the Dramatic Arts Department will organize a playwright translation competition (from Japanese to Thai) on “Sayonara”. The winning entry will be used as the basis for the script for the actual play. In addition, a special lecture on “Japanese Literature” and a workshop for playwrights will be conducted and open to the public free of charge. Android Human Theatre Call for Audition
For the first time in Southeast Asia, a radical new kind of theatre using human actresses and an android is to be presented in the form of a play called “Sayonara”, directed and written by Hirata Oriza. Mr. Oriza is a renowned playwright, theatre director, lecturer at Osaka University and the founder of Seinendan Theatre. “Sayonara” will be performed in both Thai-language and Japanese-language versions during November 23-27 on the occasion of the Chula Academic Fair and Bangkok Theatre Festival 2011.
In this regard, the Japan Foundation and the Department of Dramatic Arts, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University are pleased to announce auditions for the above-mentioned innovative play to be conducted on June 22-23 at Sodsai Pantoomkomol Centre for Dramatic Arts, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University. Those who are interested in the audition, please read the below information carefully.
Eligibilities
1. Female of no less than 18 years of age.
2. Good command of Thai or Japanese languages.
3. Good health.
4. Have no fear of androids.
5. Be able to attend rehearsals on Nov. 19-22 and the performances on Nov. 23-27, 2011 everyday, for the whole day.
