Bangkok--16 Jun--Total Quality PR
Each year hundreds of thousands of puppies and kittens are being born into hunger, disease, and homelessness on the streets of Bangkok. Travel around the city for just a day, and you can’t miss seeing dogs painfully riddled with mange, kittens scurrying across busy roads, and mothers nursing their delicate new litters amongst mounds of waste.
SCAD Foundation (Soi Cats And Dogs) believes this needs to change. SCAD works to ease this suffering through sterilization, adoption and education programs — improving life for the street animals, and thereby making life healthier for everyone in the community.
SCAD is very aware that times are tough, and with a continual stream of desperate cases, the organization is seeking new Members through the 1000-For-Change regular giving program.
SCAD’s General Manager, Wendy Edney, in launching the initiative, stated “With more and more desperate animals coming to our attention every day, sometimes the task in front of us can feel overwhelming. We want to do more, but are often hampered by the lack of a secure revenue stream. We truly need hundreds of people to join with us as a Member of 1000-For-Change. If successful, with each Member donating just 1,000 baht per month, our ability to provide ongoing animal welfare services will be truly revolutionized.“
Sachli Salarpour is a major donor and a long time supporter of SCAD’s work. “I began supporting SCAD after being incredibly saddened by the state of the street animals I would see here in Bangkok every day. I was impressed when I saw what SCAD was achieving. I have seen first hand that small actions really can have make a huge difference to each animal helped and the communities they came from. I hope others will join me as a Member of 1000-For-Change so SCAD can continue its vital animal welfare work, aiding street cats and dogs and benefiting the communities in which they live.”
A small charity, SCAD delivers mainly though a small staff and a group of dedicated volunteers. To join 1000-for-Change, or to help SCAD in any way that you can, please go to www.scadbangkok.org
Notes for Editor
SCAD Foundation is a registered charity and stands for Soi Cats And Dogs. Formerly known as Soi Dog Rescue, SCAD was established in 2002 by British expat Sherry Conisbee.
SCAD is dedicated to improving the lives of street dogs and cats through programs of sterilization, education and adoption.
Since its inception, SCAD has helped over 5,600 street dogs and 2,800 street cats. There have been 862 adoptions and 133 of those were to homes in Canada, the USA and Europe.
One example of SCAD’s work is the story of Bernadette (picture attached). When Bernadette came to SCAD she was close to death. She was emaciated, limping badly due to a damaged pelvis, and was hairless from mange, blood parasites, bacterial infections and malnutrition. Her eyes were so badly infected that she could barely open them. From day one, despite her pain, misery and infections, Bernadette never stopped wagging her stumpy tail. Her devotion to her human carers was just as strong as her will to live. With the right medication, plenty of rest, kind words and gentle hands, Bernadette flourished in SCAD's care. Her bony frame started to fill out and hair began to sprout all over her body. Her spunky, determined nature and big personality caught the eye of Jane, an American woman who has adopted many dogs, including two others from SCAD. Bernadette now has an amazing new life in America and her story can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlA3mMlrWQs .
