Mr. Kasam Inkeaw, President of Thailand Cable TV Association and representative of cable TV operators in Greater Bangkok, was joined by Nation Broadcasting Corporation PCL Managing Director Mr. Adisak Limprungpatanakij, representing content providers, in an event held on June 20 to announce Cable TV Thai (CTT), an alliance formed by cable TV operators in Greater Bangkok and major content providers. The Cable TV Thai brand represents a refreshing new alternative in knowledge and entertainment for Bangkok residents and will be adopted by all participating operators moving forward.
Today, the cable TV market in Greater Bangkok not only encompasses major operators but also 72 mid-size and small service providers with a combined subscriber base of approximately 700,000 households. Many experienced operators have developed significant technological capabilities, both in analog and digital broadcasting, while also presenting a wide variety of high-quality content at affordable prices to consumers. However, despite the accessibility of their services, these cable TV operators remain in relative obscurity.
Cable TV Thai, an alliance formed between 14 cable TV content providers and 17 cable TV operators in Greater Bangkok, promises a solution to this dilemma. Backed by a joint investment ฿200 million, content operators will handle promotional and advertising activities as well as the development of a call center and database systems, while cable operators will provide installation services for subscribers.
To mark the launch of Cable TV Thai, the first 100,000 subscribers will be able to enjoy the new channel with no installation fees plus one month of free subscription in a one-month introductory campaign that will start on June 21. Interested consumers can subscribe by calling the Cable TV Thai call center at 0-2793-2100 in order to receive services from operators closest to their locations. Further information is available online at www.cabletvthai.in.th.
"The campaign will allow us to gauge interest in the market. Our success in Greater Bangkok may lead to an expansion into other areas around the country in order to give everyone access to quality media content at affordable prices. For just ฿300-350, subscribers will have access to over 60-80 channels," said Mr. Kasem.
Mr. Adisak added: "The introductory campaign will be given full support by Cable TV Thai's content partners through all possible channels with ฿100 million worth of PR and marketing content, covering newspapers, radio stations, magazines, websites, in-store media at branches of Tesco Lotus and handouts distributed at hotspots around Bangkok."
"Content providers see cable TV operators as valuable allies. By working together, both sides can expand the market and offer new alternatives to consumers. Cable TV stations today have developed to the point that they can offer massive amounts of content that cater to each audience segment, including news, movies, music, variety shows, cartoons, sports and more," noted Mr. Adisak.
