Join jazz lovers at The Living Room from July 14 — 16, 2011 and experience the extraordinary playing of harmonica player Jens Bunge with The Jeremy Monteiro Trio as they pay respect to the legendary Toots Thielemans. Renowned as the musician who introduced the chromatic harmonica as a jazz instrument, Toots has been regarded as one of the world’s finest players since the mid-'50s. Playing the harmonica with the dexterity of a saxophonist, he continues to be an influential figure within the jazz genre. Muscian and producer Quincy Jones once said of Toots ‘I can say without hesitation that Toots is one of the greatest musicians of our time. On his instrument he ranks with the best that jazz has ever produced. He goes for the heart and makes you cry.” In a living tribute to Toots Thielemans, Jens Bunge and The Jeremy Monteiro Trio featuring Jeremy on piano, Therdsak Wongvichien on bass, and Shawn Kelley on drum will express their admiration for the musical legend with 3 nights of not-to-be-missed performances at The Living Room. Jens Bunge first picked up a harmonica at the age of 18. Inspired by the music of Toots Thielemans, he discovered his passion for jazz. He began performing with local jazz bands as was soon attracting attention for his musicianship and improvisational style. Jens illustrious career has seen him play his harmonica on all five continents with many renowned musicians. Recent live performances on the international circuit include the Cameron Highlands Festival in Malaysia, the prestigious Harmonica Bridge Festival in Poland, and Merate Musica in Italy. Jens has also released eight albums under his own name, and appears on recordings of jazz and pop artists such as Rick Smith, Ruth Ling, Shamus- Dark and Kay Tse. Pianist Jeremy Monteiro is dubbed the “King of Swing” and was instrumental in establishing The- Living Room as Bangkok’s top jazz venue. He has recorded more than 20 jazz albums as leader and has played on numerous other jazz albums by other jazz artists, including one by Grammy Award winning jazz saxophonist Ernie Watts, which he also produced. Therdsak Wongvichien is considered one of Thailand’s leading exponents of the bass. Born in Bangkok, he studied his BA in Music Education at Srinakharinwirot University. Therdsak has been a part of the Bangkok jazz and music scene for almost two decades and is a regular fixture at The Living Room. Drummer Shawn Kelley was raised in Syracuse, New York and studied jazz under the tutelage of Ron Carter, John Lewis, Gil Evans, and Sonny Igoe. After years of playing on the New York jazz scene, Shawn relocated to the warmer climates of Asia, where he has been in high demand ever since.
