As the organisation committed to the development of the society, an independently Thai-owned and operated company headquartered in the UK specialising in all inclusive luxury guided tours to Thailand, Surreal Holidays created the “Friendship Fund” project formulated from Surreal Holidays’ management and team to share responsibilities for local communities and social contributions in Thailand.
According to Mr Tunwa Kittikupt, Managing Director of Surreal Holidays (Thailand) Ltd, “At Surreal Holidays we realise that tourism can have a mixed effect on local communities. Therefore we are committed to providing responsible & sustainable tourism with a positive impact for local people. Recently, we have developed the ‘Friendship Fund’ and our first project was to re-develop the library for ‘Bann Huay Sala’ school at a Huay Sala village in Mae Ai District, Chiang Mai province near the border of Thailand and Myanmar.”
Mr Tunwa said “Bann Huay Sala school provides an education to 180 children and many of them are drawn from local hill tribes. Moreover, some 80% of the children do not speak Thai as their first language. The provided facilities thus will really help them to achieve their future opportunity. The renovation of the library involved providing a new roof, complete re-wire, re-decorate, new shelving & the provision of new books, two computers & audio visual equipment. In addition to this we were able to provide some new sports equipment. The library was therefore named ‘Surreal Friendship Library’. We are very pleased that our first project was the result of support from Surreal Holidays, and friends/associates of the management,” Mr Tunwa said.
“Surreal Friendship Fund aims to share responsibilities to Thailand’s society emphasising on sustainable quality living development; especially in communities where the company offers travel and tour services to the company’s guests. In particular, the fund contribution plan has been drawn to cover the areas of education, building up local career opportunities and conserving local art and culture activities.
In addition, we look forward to working closely with many local communities in the near future in the hope that the ‘Friendship Fund’ make a real difference in lives over the coming years with a minimum aim of one project a year,” Mr Tunwa concluded.
