กรุงเทพฯ--14 ต.ค.--Thai Airways Mr. Piyasvasti Amranand, President of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI), was recently a guest panelist at the Greener Skies 4th Aviation and Environment Summit, organized by Orient Aviation Media at Island Shangri-La Hotel in Hong Kong. Under the topic “CEO Panel: Aviation and the environment: the view from the CEO’s desk”, Mr. Amranand stated that “THAI, having similar environmental concerns as other airlines, has a financial incentive to reduce fuel consumption. THAI has been able to achieve significant fuel savings, up to 12% over the last decade, by retiring aging aircraft and investing in new and greater fuel-efficient models. Just in May this year, THAI operated the ASPIRE Green Flights as a demonstration on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reduce fossil fuel utilization. Mr. Amranand also shared his concern on environmental taxes being imposed that would increase the cost of travel without real corresponding benefits to the environment, and would not create incentives in the travel business, or regional trade and tourism. The panel discussion was moderated by Mr. Andrew Stevens, CNN Anchor and Correspondent, and also included Mr. Ivan Chu, Chief Operating Officer, Cathay Pacific Airways, and Mr. Tony Tyler, Director - General, International Air Transport Association.
