Low fares leader Jetstar has added Guangzhou to its growing number of mainland China destinations, cementing the carrier as the biggest LCC flying between Singapore and China.
Jetstar will start a daily service to Guangzhou from 22 December 2011, with the addition of its 16th Airbus A320 aircraft to its growing hub in Singapore.
Jetstar Asia Chief Executive Officer Ms Chong Phit Lian said Guangzhou, one of Singapore’s closest trade and tourism partners, was an important next step in Jetstar’s expansion into China.
“Our commitment to Singapore-China routes over the past two years has made Jetstar the fastest growing carrier between the two countries*.
“We increased our mainland China capacity by 300 per cent in 2010 and we expect it will rise a further 150 per cent in 2011 to unlock the latent travel demand that low fares create,” added Ms Chong.
Jetstar currently offers services to Guilin, Hangzhou, Haikou, Ningbo, Shantou, Hong Kong, Taipei and Macau. Flights to Beijing start 24 November 2011**.
Jetstar currently operates 147 weekly flights to Greater China, and the latest expansion gives millions more Chinese access to low fare onward flights from Jetstar’s Singapore hub to 26 destinations across Asia Pacific.
*As measured by ASK growth and number of destinations added between December 2009 and December 2011.
** Flights subject to regulatory approval.
