In reference to the escalating flood crisis, Thai AirAsia’s flights departing from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport are still operating on a normal schedule.
“We at AirAsia, are ready to assist all flood-affected passengers during this critical time, including those who are planning to evacuate from Bangkok”, said Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai AirAsia.
“As a company, about 40% of our staff have been directly affected by the current situation and we have responded by securing 200 hotel rooms near the airport for individuals and families who need to temporarily relocate.
Many of our employees’ homes are flooded, and yet they have shown their hard-working commitment by continuing to perform their duties during this challenging time. Our staff are well aware of how important travel and access to transportation is at the moment, especially because many roads are inaccessible and air travel is one of the only feasible options to many places at the moment”, added the CEO.
“AirAsia and our staff are working in full gear to help flood victims. We are also coordinating relief efforts and accepting donations of clean drinking water as water has become a scarce resource. This project is done in collaboration with the Ruam Duay Chuay Kan (RDCK) Volunteer Network, who distribute the water to people in Bangkok and its surrounding areas. We have happily received and transported numerous donations each day.
All of us at AirAsia are humbly grateful that we are able to help out to the best of our abilities. Our thoughts and prayers are with Thailand and all the flood affected people, and we hope that the situation will improve as soon as possible”, stated Mr. Tassapon.
