ข่าวท่องเที่ยว Friday November 4, 2011 14:20 —PRESS RELEASE LOCAL

Bangkok--4 Nov--Siam City Hotel A cooperative commitment to the environment is a big part of the Siam City Hotel’s mission statement. We are continually managing our property in a manner that better preserves and enhances the environment. The hotel makes a significant effort to be “green” by reducing waste and lessening our carbon footprint, lowering energy and water usage, undertaking tree planting and encouraging staff recycling. At present the hotel is part of the Green Leaf Foundation and has been awarded a certificate of excellence and a three-star rating. The hotel is daily focused on waste separation, recycling, bulk buying, using recyclable materials and carefully separating and handing waster products. Management is focussed on training all staff, guests and the local community to take an active role in preserving their own environment through proper disposal methods. At the hotel all department heads are responsible for making sure garbage is properly separated into wet, dry, toxic and food waste. To become even greener the Siam City Hotel has recently instigated a “Waste Collection Point” program coordinated by our environmental team, with representatives from all departments, including the general manager. The programs objective is to bring about better management in order to more effectively reduce, re-use and recycle. The Waste Collection Point is a specially designed room with accurate sorting instructions and facilities to aid the sorting and disposal of all waste. All wet garbage, such as leftover food, vegetables peelings and other kitchen waste, is composted to be used as pig food. Office supplies like newspapers, magazines, cardboard, scrap paper, etc are collected, separated and sold for recycling. For dry waste we divide into five categories: garbage for the incinerator, e.g. condoms, sanitary pads, gloves, tissues; recyclables, e.g. cans, plastic, glass; toxic waste, e.g. batteries, light bulbs, detergents; compost waste, e.g. flowers, tea leaves, coffee grounds; and leftover construction items, e.g. wood, brick, tiles. “With global warming issues so critical these days every local organisation needs to adopt environmentally friendly practices for the benefit of the whole community,” says Marisa Sukosol Nunbhakdi, executive vice president of Siam Hotels & Resorts. Environment awareness has long been a mainstay of Siam City Hotel culture and community commitment and the hotel plans to continue its green initiatives, awareness campaigns and activities to ensure all staff, guests and Thais enjoy a bright and green future together.
