Bangkok--9 Dec--IDC Thailand
According IDC's Thailand Fixed Line Tracker, the country's fixed line telecom market managed a slight growth in 3Q 2011. This is mainly due to a 2% increase in data revenues. On the other hand, the voice segment, which continued to be affected by customers’ preference for mobile voice services, saw a 2% decline. In all, total revenues from fixed line services reached USD 541 million in 3Q.
According to Pimchaya Ruechataveeroongroj, Market Analyst for telecommunications research at IDC Thailand, "In 3Q 2011, broadband Internet remained a major driver for fixed line data services. The attractive promotions for hi-speed Internet that featured reasonable subscription rates stimulated usage from both home and business subscribers. IP VPN was also another growth area during the period.”
In 4Q, IDC expects the fixed line market to be hampered by the damage to telecom infrastructure and operations caused by the flood crisis. This, in turn, will affect the overall fixed line market performance for 2011. In fact, some operators such as TOT and True have announced plans to waive the monthly fees for users who have been affected by the flood.
