Acer joins hands with ADOC 2.0 to Empower Student in Cambodia Simply Help Project is fortified with Acer Products

Bangkok--5 Jan--PC & Associates Consulting Acer Computer Co., Ltd. together with The APEC Digital Opportunity Center (ADOC 2.0) Non-government Office supporting the Cambodia Simply Help Project to bridge digital divide and enable more computer literacy resources for Cambodia. Acer sponsors and donates products including computer desktops, notebook, LCD project & screen and a set of server worth of US$20,000), through it local distribution partner PTC Computer. The main objective of ADOC 2.0 project is to reduce digital divides in the APEC region by enabling people to overcome technological limitations due to age, gender, health, social or education status, and to enjoy the 4A (anytime, anyone, anywhere, anything) benefits of the digitalization. A wide range of ICT training programs will be provided, tailored to the needs of partner economies and focused on the disadvantaged groups in remote areas, including women and children. The project features the wide involvement of private sector, including major ICT firms and non-profit organizations. Through close public-private partnership, “best practices” model for APEC will be established by synergizing the various resources and the strength from sponsors. Mr. George Huang, the Director General of ADOC 2.0 Project Non-government Office said ‘we thank Acer Computer for their vision, mission and generosity for the Digital Age. We are sharing the same vision in enabling and reducing the technological limitations. The main idea of the ADOC 2.0 project is to increase the cooperation between the public and private sectors with focus on capacity building activities for disadvantaged group. The Tailoring School in Cambodia was opened in 2002 and has moved to eight different locations throughout rural areas since its founding The Simply Help computer school has established a highly respected reputation over the years through word-of-mouth. Between 200 and 250 students typically apply for only 100 available training spots every three months. These are motivated university students who may come from low-income families, orphanages, or suffer from disabilities. The computer school has 11 — 15 local volunteers on average. These dedicated volunteers assist in computer classes, interview prospective students in the selection process, and help organize tailoring projects and class graduations.
