Thai Customers Get Later Pick-Up Times for Growing EU Market
FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, today launched a major customer service initiative aimed at providing Thai customers with greater flexibility for pick-up and delivery of packages.
The initiative, which will roll out over the next few months, comprises a range of service enhancements including significantly later pick-up times for packages destined for the European Union and greater flexibility for customers at the point where the parcel is picked up.
“We listened carefully to our customers and found many were experiencing difficulty in meeting increasingly strict and changing requirements in documentation for international express deliveries,” said David Carden, managing director of FedEx Express in Thailand and Indochina.
“While customers appreciate the precision and promptness of our pick-up team, they sometimes needed more time when our couriers arrived to complete the forms or prepare the package itself. So we have given our couriers more discretion and flexibility by having our couriers return later to pick up the package while still ensuring it meets the deadline for express delivery.”
Carden said a trial of the new system in recent months had met with an overwhelmingly positive customer response.
“A key element of this initiative has been training our staff to help them assess the customer’s situation. At the same time we have given our employees the authority to put customer’s needs first and find a flexible way of still meeting the delivery deadlines.”
Another key element of the service enhancement initiative is extensions of the cut-off time for packages destined for Europe and the continents of North America and South America. Effective Sept. 21, the deadline for express delivery of shipments to European cities will be moved back from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This service enhancement includes areas in Bangkok and surrounding areas.
“The European Union is an important market for Thai exports and trading partners. To support future growth in this critical market we have responded to customer demand and delivered more flexibility and later pick-up times, while still maintaining our delivery schedule.” Carden said.
