Bangkok--Oct 21--PTT Yesterday (October 20, 1998) Mr.Viset Choopiban, President of PTT International, Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT) disclosed that the first LPG delivery from Sonkhla Petroleum Terminal, PTT to KELOIL-PTT LPG Sendirian Berhad has been made today. PLG will be bottled and further distributed to the northern states of Malaysia. Located at Bachok in Kota Bharu, Kelantan State, KELOIL-PTT is a joint venture between KELOIL Snd. Bhd. (60%) and PTT (40%). The venture is established for LPG bottling and wholesale operation in the northern states of Malaysia. At the outset, PTT will supply approximately 1,300 tons of LPG per month. During the first phase (1998-1999) of the project, a 140-ton LPG storage tank and a bottling plant with a capacity of 3,500 tons per month are constructed and now completed, with an investment of US$ 6.2 million or Baht 288 million. In the second phase, it will invest Baht 640 million on a construction of a 2,000-ton LPG storage tank and a jetty for 1,000 tons. In the end phase, it will fund another Baht 112 million for building one more bottling plant with additional capacity of 3,500 tons per month. Mr. Viset added that the northern states of Malaysia are considered a promising market. Currently, LPG bottling plants are predominantly situated in the central and the southern regions. While the distance from Songkhla Petroleum Terminal and Khanom Gas Separation Plant in Thailand is shorter, it is more convenient and economical to supply LPG from PTT's facilities. PTT's debut of LPG venture in Malaysia will particularly pave way for entering into other petroleum businesses in Malaysia in the future.
