Asia’s biggest action sports competition kicks off in Shanghai and fans can look forward to catching a stellar line up of the sport’s best athletes competing in the KIA X Games Asia 2011, LIVE and exclusive on ESPN from 1.00 to 3.00pm on 29 April - 1 May.
Leading the list is seven-time X Games Skateboard gold medallist Pierre-Luc Gagnon, who will attempt to win his third Mini-MegaRamp title in just as many years. Accompanying him is eight-time gold medallist Andy Macdonald and two-time gold medallist Sandro Dias. Headlining a world-class BMX field are four-time X Games gold medallist Kevin Robinson, three-time gold medallist Chad Kagy, nine-time medallist Simon Tabron, six-time medallist Steven McCann and two-time X Games Asia gold medallist Vince Byron.
Additionally, one of the biggest draws among Asian fans is Japan’s high-flying Takeshi Yasutoko, who will attempt to win an unprecedented sixth-consecutive gold medal in the Aggressive Inline Vert — one for each year the competition has been held in Shanghai.
In addition to the stellar list of athletes include the most dominant female Winter X Games and Slopestyle skier in the world, three-time Winter X Games gold medalist Kaya Turski competing in the Aggressive inline street event this year.
This year’s KIA X Games Asia also will feature for the first time an up-and-coming star in the form of 12-year-old skateboarder Tom Scharr, who’s been making waves in the USA for being the first skateboarder ever to land a 1080 - a three-revolution stunt — and the youngest ever athlete to skate the MegaRamp.
This year’s event is the 14th edition of Asia’s biggest action sports competition and will feature the mini-MegaRamp structure that towers more than three stories high, and longer than two basketball courts. The mini MegaRamp contests will feature Skateboard and BMX athletes dropping into a structure with a 9.2m high roll-in, launching over a gap 7.6m long and continuing into a 5.5m quarter-pipe.
Asia’s premiere action sports event will feature more than 150 athletes from more than 30 countries, treating fans to world-class competition in the sports of Skateboard, BMX, Aggressive In-Line Skate and Moto X Big Air demonstrations. This year’s competitors and spectators can also look forward to an added challenge with a newly designed street course that is expected to provide a treat for spectators.
