Horti ASIA 2012 is the international trade fair of Horticulture and floriculture of production and processing, firstly launched in Bangkok Thailand. It is the biggest event in this region with the objectives to prepare the farmer for the upcoming AEC and promote Thailand as the hub of ASEAN.
Mr.Thammarat Wanglee, Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives stated that Thailand is the world top-ranked exporter of Horticulture, Vegetables, Fruits, Flowers and Orchids.
This Exhibition is a platform to promote the development of Horticulture industry and its growth in Thailand. It is also the opportunities to expand market in ASEAN, Asia and the world which increase the standard of living of Thai farmers. Moreover, global innovation and technology in this event are the sources of Thai farmers and entrepreneurs to apply knowledge in improving business operation and expand production capacity to prepare for upcoming ASEAN Economic Communities or AEC in the next three years.
Mr.Soopachai Barnpubtong, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives added that the Ministry realized the importance to promote Thai agriculture products to have its competitiveness in the world market as well as to create Thailand as the ASEAN Agriculture Exchange Center. Therefore, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has set up three groups of sub-committee to promote the following activities:-
- Exhibition (Thailand pavilion) by Department of Agriculture Promotion who presents innovative knowledge for all participants.
- Field trips under the Horticulture Promotion Project by Department of Agriculture Extension who is responsible to draw 2,000 Thai farmers to attend field trips and 120 foreign visitors who are interested in new knowledge and would like to visit the experimented farms in up country. There are 3 routes for farm visit. Those are Fruits, Vegetables and Flowers farm.
- Seminar by the Department of Agriculture who set up the directions and topics under the theme “Innovation to uplift Horticulture industry to global market”. They are inviting the top well-known specialists as speakers to provide important knowledge about agriculture products to interested participants.
Ms.Ladda Mongkolchaivivat, General Manger of VNU Exhibitions Asia Pacific Co., Ltd. stated that we, as the global exhibition organizer, have cooperated with 12 organizations from both private and government sectors to hold this first time exhibition in Thailand.
The objective is to promote Thailand as the agriculture market center to fulfill the linkage from producers, distributors, till end users and other related agencies especially 10 counties in ASEAN that have a substantial export and import value in the region and its continuous growth this year.
Horti ASIA 2012 values the importance of innovation and latest technology including seminar in varied sessions namely academics, technical and work shop. It is the platform to exchange the knowledge and technology for the support of the on-going agriculture policy in each country in order to cope up with the upcoming AEC. If the farmers, entrepreneurs and exporters can be involved with the innovation and technology at the international standard level, undoubtedly, theirs businesses will be able to adapt with such market changes. There are more than 140 exhibitors from worldwide and 6 country pavilions namely the Netherlands, France, China, the Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand. The exhibition space occupies more than 5,000 sq.m. and be ready to welcome visitors from Malaysia, Indonesia, The Philippines, Vietnam and local Thai people.
