European Union Holds Workshop to Raise Awareness of International Trade Defence Instruments

Sim (first from right). They were joined by the Ministry’s Director of the Bureau of Import Administration Mrs. Ubon Malila (first from left) and Director of Bureau of Trade Interests and Remedies Ms. Nopporn Linthong (second from left). Delegation of the European Union to Thailand and the Department of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce together organized a special workshop activity titled "EU Trade Defence Instruments: Sharing Experience" as part of a joint effort between the European Union and the Royal Thai Government to increase awareness of EU trade regulations among members of the Thai business community, academia and government agencies. Held as part of the Thailand-EU Cooperation Facility Phase II (TEC II), the workshop provided attendees with valuable insight into the European Union's trade defence measures - including anti-dumping, anti-subsidy and various safeguard regulations. EU experts Mr. Edmund W. Sim and Mr. Edwin Vermulst were on hand to present an in-depth look into how the European Union protects its economy, with real-world cases raised as valuable examples. The workshop activity served as a means for knowledge transfer on EU trading practices to Thai businesses and authorities, with the ultimate goal of ensuring widespread awareness of trade-related regulations enforced by EU nations and thus paving the way to further cooperation between Thailand and the European Union.
