AirAsia Group CEO, Tan Sri Dr. Tony Fernandes was presented the ‘Best CEO for IR — Mid Cap’ award, while AirAsia Investor Relations Manager, Benyamin Ismail was named the ‘Best IR Professional — Mid Cap’. This is a second win for both Tony and Benyamin, their first awards received in May 2011.
Both awards were presented by Datuk Ranjit Ajit Singh, Chairman of the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), witnessed by Chairman of Bursa Malaysia and CEO of Bursa Malaysia, Dato’ Tajuddin Atan.
Tony Fernandes said, “It’s truly an honour to be awarded for a second time in a row. Our success will not be possible without adhering to stringent IR standards, placing high emphasis to transparency and practicing good corporate governance. We have all our stakeholders to thanks for their support in our various IR initiatives. Their confidence in our practices and IR modules is vital in making us a leader in the aviation industry and buttressing our position as a major player in the LCC segment.”
Benyamin said, “It is again a great moment to be acknowledged for this award. The hard work is not solely mine but a collective regional IR team effort which AirAsia embodies in its vision to provide a consistent communication platform to our stakeholders globally. We are glad to have created in-roads with our investment community.”
The MIRA awards follow the recent award wins that the airline garnered in April this year in Hong Kong. AirAsia for a second year in a row won the Best Investor Relations Company for Malaysia, Best CEO for Malaysia and Best Investor Relations Officer for Malaysia awards, given by Corporate Governance Asia at the 2nd Asian Excellence Recognition Awards by Corporate Governance Asia.
Established in June 2007 by Bursa Malaysia and funded by the Capital Market Development Fund, MIRA is the first and only professional association committed to promote good practice of IR by public listed companies. MIRA also plays an important role in developing and advancing the professional development of IR practitioners in Malaysia.
In January, the airline won the inaugural ‘Value Airline of the Year for 2012’ at Penton Media’s Air Transport World? (ATW), the leading monthly magazine covering the global airline industry. Following that, in February, AirAsia was crowned Asiamoney’s ‘Best Managed Company in Malaysia (Medium Cap) Award 2011’.
