LINE, the world’s leading mobile messenger with social network service, strengthens communication functions and adds social networking elements by launching ‘Home’ and ‘Timeline’ services on August 6, 2012 available for Android phone version today. (iPhone version will be available soon). Users are able to share their life stories by posting pictures, videos, and location information on their own space which is called ‘Home’ and ‘Timeline.’
LINE is moving towards becoming a ‘Smartphone Life Platform’ as it moves beyond only sending and receiving messages. This is based on the large user number of 50 million worldwide, linked services such as LINE Camera and Official Accounts, and monetization through its high-selling Sticker Shop, along with other diverse entertaining services.
Users can create their own Home, which is available when they tap their profiles in the friends list and profile pictures in chat rooms. Users can upload all kinds of content and share them with their contacts. Unlike other messenger services that only allow text for users to share their thoughts, LINE friends can visit other Homes and post comments and also leave mini LINE Stickers to state whether they like the post, giving them a distinctive communication tool that users can use to share their emotional expression. Users can also express their personality by decorating the cover image of their Home.
In Timeline, users can post their stories, pictures, videos and even location information and see other friend’s activities. Like Home, users can also leave comments and mini Stickers to the postings. Furthermore, thanks to the interworking system, postings of users can be seen on both Home and Timeline.
Basically, every posting in Home and Timeline are shared with all listed friends. Yet, users can also switch their settings if they do not want their posting to be exposed on Timeline.
Along with the opening of Home and Timeline LINE develops the concept of the ‘Smartphone Life Platform’ which is intended to provide a more fun and enriching experience to smartphone users, functioning as a platform integrating additional apps and services. LINE aims to be sourced by other content providers so that users can enjoy more exiting entertaining activities within LINE. For a start, LINE released ‘LINE Birzzle’ and ‘LINE Birzzle PLUS’ on July 4th which are mobile game applications which users can enjoy. ‘LINE Birzzle’ already hit 5 million downloads within 3 weeks after its release and ranked number 1 in the Top Free Apps chart in App Store of 8 countries including Hong Kong, Taiwan and Thailand. Also ‘LINE Birzzle’ and ‘LINE Birzzle PLUS’ provides free LINE Stickers to users who download the game. Ultimately, LINE will pursue to build a ‘Smartphone Life Platform’ for user to be connected with endless contents in the LINE world.
