KTC Taps Into Thailand's THB 1 Billion Pet Industry with 'Paw-ssibilities' Forum to Drive Economic Growth

Krungthai Card Public Company Limited (KTC), in collaboration with Pet Expo Thailand, GO Hotel, Thonglor International Pet Hospital, and Dhipaya Insurance, hosted the 'Paw-ssibilities: The Next Chapter of Pet Industry' forum to explore Thailand's rapidly expanding pet economy and the evolving behaviors of modern pet owners. The seminar brought together leading industry experts and partners to highlight key market trends, emerging growth sectors, and strategies to meet rising demand in a pet-driven economywhere pets are increasingly regarded as family members and central to consumer lifestyles.

Pet Industry Growth Reflects Shifting Consumer Behavior

Miss Sireerat Corvanich, Head of Credit Card Marketing Division at KTC, revealed that KTC credit card spending in the pet category reached THB 1.012 billion in 2024, a 13% increase from 2023. The 30-34 age group led in spending (17%), followed closely by those aged 60 and above (16%). From January to April 2025, spending in the pet category continued to grow steadily, recording a 10% year-on-year increase. Notably, spending in April alone rose by 12%, attributed to seasonal factors and extended holiday periods that boosted consumer demand for pet-related products and services. According to the Department of Business Development, Ministry of Commerce, Thailand is now home to 5,009 pet-related businesses, with sustained growth fueled by rising demand in areas such as pet insurance, veterinary technology, and pet-friendly services.

Industry Leaders Share Market Insights and Innovations

Miss Yupha Damrongkongwittayanukul, Assistant Project Manager of Pet Expo Thailand (organized by NCC Management & Development Company Limited), noted that pet exhibitionsboth in Thailand and globallyare becoming increasingly specialized. For Pet Expo Thailand 2025, attendance is forecasted to exceed 200,000 visitors. A sharp rise in exotic and specialty pet ownership is also expected to grow by over 50%, opening opportunities for innovation in pet food, products, and services, particularly in fast-growing markets across Asia and Latin America.
Miss Jatuporn Wilaikaew, Head of Hotel Asset Management and Operations at GO Hotel, Central Pattana Group, shared how the brand is adapting to Gen Y and Gen Z travelers, who increasingly travel with pets. As part of this shift, 10-15% of GO Hotel rooms are now designated as pet-friendly, with amenities such as bowls, bedding, pet waste bags, and safe walking areas. In addition, staff training ensures that pet owners receive a warm, well-informed welcome.

Mrs. Thanatcha Wongcharoensin, Director of Banking Business Division 2 at Dhipaya Insurance Public Company Limited, stated that Thailand's pet insurance market is expected to reach THB 100-200 million in 2025, with annual growth projected at 15-20%, in line with rising pet ownership. A key driver is growing awareness of rising veterinary costsroutine care such as vaccinations or check-ups typically costs THB 1,000-5,000, while surgeries or specialized treatments can reach THB 10,000-50,000. As a result, more pet owners are turning to insurance as a proactive way to manage financial risk and ensure access to quality care.

In response, Dhipaya Insurance has developed a range of comprehensive policies, covering medical expenses, life protection, and third-party liability, helping to ease the financial burden while supporting growth across the pet care ecosystem, including Thailand's more than 3,000 pet hospitals.

Nawaporn Chounpreecha, DVM., MBA, Marketing Director and Customer Relations Management at Thonglor International Pet Hospital, shared plans for national expansion and the rollout of small-format clinics providing basic veterinary services. In response to growing demand from single-person households, child-free couples, and seniors, the hospital is also investing in technology-driven innovationsincluding MRI, CT scans, endoscopic surgery, physical therapy, tele-vet consultations, and breed-specific personalized treatments.
