As the 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference concludes in Nice, Thai Union Group PCL, one of the world's leading seafood producers, has issued a call to accelerate collective action to conserve and sustainably use the world's oceans. The Company also highlighted progress under its global sustainability strategy, SeaChange(R) 2030, and reaffirmed its long-term commitment to SDG 14: Life Below Water.
The Company's newly released 2024 Sustainability Report details the progress Thai Union has made over the past year to advance responsible sourcing, protect marine ecosystems, and build climate resilience across global seafood supply chains.
"Safeguarding the ocean is not just an environmental priority but a shared responsibility and a long-term investment in global resilience," said Thiraphong Chansiri, CEO of Thai Union Group. "Through SeaChange(R) 2030, we're demonstrating what's possible when companies embed sustainability in business strategy. But no single company can achieve this alone, collaboration across sectors and borders is essential."
Thai Union's global sustainability framework SeaChange(R) 2030 strategy focuses on delivering measurable progress across people and planet through 11 interconnected commitments. The Company has committed to investing USD 200 million by 2030 in initiatives that strengthen traceability, support ocean conservation, and reduce emissions.
Key achievements reported in Thai Union's 2024 Sustainability Report include:
- Sourcing 98.9% of the Company's total tuna volume from fisheries that are MSC-certified, in MSC assessment, or in a credible fishery improvement project (+14% versus 2023).
- Achieving 97% on-the-water monitoring in its tuna supply chain, with full 100% coverage expected in 2025 (+7% versus 2023).
- Reducing Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 21%
- 23 out of Thai Union's 32 manufacturing and distribution sites achieved zero waste to landfill status in 2024.
- Launched the Lower Carbon Shrimp Program in Thailand working to decarbonize shrimp production and lower Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions
- Diverted 234 tons of plastic from waterways and oceans.
As one of the largest seafood companies globally, Thai Union recognizes the influence and responsibility it carries. The Group is actively engaged in multi-stakeholder collaborations, working to advance industry-wide improvements in traceability, labor rights, and ocean health. As discussions at the UN Ocean Conference focus on protecting marine ecosystems, mobilizing ocean finance, and scaling sustainable fisheries, Thai Union urged stakeholders across the value chain to take collective responsibility for the future of the ocean. Thai Union continues to play an active role in global coalitions and partnerships that support ocean conservation. In 2023, Thai Union became the first company to sign the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership's Protecting Ocean Wildlife pledge, committing to identify and reduce the risk of bycatch in high-risk fisheries through the adoption of best practices, 100% observer coverage where possible, and public reporting. Since then, governments, collectively representing 15% of global tuna catch, together with major retailers, suppliers and food service companies have joined the pledge.
