High above the city on the 26th floor, Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld continues to nurture one of Bangkok's most innovative sustainability projects - a 1,296-square-metre rooftop organic garden that brings farm-to-table dining to life while reducing the hotel's environmental footprint.
What was once unused space has been transformed into a thriving greenhouse, designed with a translucent roof to shield crops from heavy rainfall and open sides to ensure natural airflow. All vegetables are cultivated through 100% organic farming methods, free from chemicals and designed to mirror natural growing conditions.

In the past year and a half, the rooftop garden has produced over 6,000 kilograms of fresh produce, including: Butterhead lettuce, Green Oak, Green Cos, Red Oak, Kale and Italian Basil. This impressive harvest translated into cost savings of over THB 900,000 compared to market prices, while also supplying the hotel's restaurants with nutrient-rich, same-day-harvested ingredients.
The garden operates as part of a closed-loop sustainability system, with food waste from the staff cafeteria composted and returned to enrich the soil. A dedicated gardening team ensures each crop meets the hotel's exacting standards of freshness and quality before making its way to the table. Guests can enjoy everything from crisp lettuces to peppery rocket and aromatic herbs incorporated into signature dishes across the hotel's dining venues.
"This rooftop garden reflects our long-term commitment to sustainable hospitality," said Unnop Keawputtal, Executive Assistant Manager - Bangkok Convention Centre & Food & Beverage, Centara Grand at CentralWorld. "Our guests can taste the difference in every dish, knowing that the ingredients have been harvested just steps away from where they dine."
Building on this success, Centara Grand plans to introduce a composting machine to further optimise the conversion of organic waste into fertilizer, supporting soil health while lowering maintenance costs. The initiative is also envisioned as a platform for education and awareness, promoting the value of urban farming and responsible resource management.
From its sky-high farm, Centara Grand at CentralWorld continues to demonstrate how sustainability and hospitality can flourish together, creating a greener future in the heart of Bangkok.
