Recently, Mrs. Gloyta Nathalang, Senior Executive Vice President, Sustainability Management and Corporate Communications, Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited, and Chairperson of the Carbon Markets Club, was a guest speaker at a knowledge-sharing seminar on greenhouse gas reduction and fostering employee engagement in sustainability, titled "Driving Organizational Sustainability: Understanding and Managing Carbon Footprints Systematically". The seminar was organized by the Office of Industrial Economics (OIE) to enhance awareness and understanding of individual and organizational roles in systematically reducing carbon footprints. It was attended by OIE executives and staff, the first central government agency under the Ministry of Industry to be certified with an organizational carbon footprint (CFO).
Mrs. Gloyta shared perspectives on corporate sustainability practices, while Mr. Teerakul Boonyong, Vice President of the Sustainability Validation and Verification Department at the Management System Certification Institute (Thailand) (MASCI), spoke about the role of verification and credibility in sustainability efforts. The seminar was opened by Mr. Passakorn Chairat, Director General of OIE and advisor to the task force driving OIE toward becoming a low-carbon organization, and was moderated by Ms. Natthaporn Jirasathavorn, Manager of Sustainable Development Department 2, MASCI, at the OIE conference room.
In her presentation, Mrs. Gloyta emphasized Bangchak's commitment to developing sustainable business innovations alongside environmental and social responsibility. She highlighted the BCP 316 NET plan, which targets carbon neutrality by 2030 and net-zero GHG emissions by 2050, through major missions namely: reducing emissions from operations, nature-based sequestration, and advancing the transition with green innovation and new technologies, including building an ecosystem that supports a low-carbon society. She also shared the Bangchak 100x Climate Action initiative as an example of engaging employees, where staff set annual personal climate action goals - such as avoiding single-use plastics, using lower-carbon fuels, waste separation, energy saving, and commuting by public transport. She concluded that climate action can begin with small, practical steps, which, when adopted consistently across all levels, can lead to real and lasting organizational change.
At the end of the seminar, Mrs. Gloyta invited participants to calculate their personal carbon footprints using the MyCF application, developed by the Carbon Markets Club in collaboration with Bangchak and BCPG. This tool helps individuals assess their average annual emissions and plan to adjust behaviors based on the principle of "abate, avoid, and act" to help mitigate climate change. This activity also supports OIE's goal of becoming a low-carbon organization under the theme "OIE: Green Hero of MIND", which relies on awareness and collaboration from all OIE personnel.
