Enlit Asia 2025, the leading platform for the ASEAN power sector, officially opened today at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC), uniting industry professionals, policymakers, and innovators to shape the future of energy in Southeast Asia. Running from September 9-11, the event showcases cutting-edge technologies and fosters critical discussions across the entire power value chain, from generation to customer engagement.

In his opening address, Dr. Veerapat Kiatfuengfoo, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Energy, underscored the country's commitment to driving a sustainable energy future across ASEAN: "Thailand is dedicated to fostering regional collaboration to accelerate a sustainable and resilient energy transition across ASEAN." The Commissioner highlighted Thailand's progress in renewable energy adoption, positioning the nation as a leader in ASEAN's energy transition: "Our advancements in solar and wind energy integration demonstrate Thailand's potential to set a regional benchmark for renewable energy scalability."

The opening day commenced with a high-level panel at 10:15 AM, addressing ASEAN's multidimensional journey toward carbon neutrality. The session, part of the Summit Agenda, focused on balancing energy security with net-zero ambitions through actionable strategies in renewable energy, digitalisation, and regional interconnectivity. Key messages emphasised cross-border transmission projects, regulatory frameworks, and the pivotal roles of utilities, private developers, and large energy users in ensuring grid stability and sustainability.

Dr. Buntoon Srethasirote, Commissioner - Energy Regulatory Commission, emphasized Thailand's role as the Eastern Economic Corridor hub in driving regional energy transition: "Thailand's strategic position in the Eastern Economic Corridor enables it to lead regional energy transition through innovation and collaboration." Similarly, Pongsakorn Yuthagovit, Deputy Governor (Planning and Engineering) of the Provincial Electricity Authority, focused on energy security and net-zero emission strategies: "Balancing energy security with net-zero goals requires integrating renewable energy while ensuring grid reliability." Tawatchai Sumranwanich, Deputy Governor, Strategy - Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), added: "Public-private partnerships and innovative financing are critical to overcoming bankability challenges for sustainable energy projects." Direk Boonpiyathud, Deputy Governor (Power System Planning and Innovation), Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), further highlighted: "Innovative grid planning and digital solutions are essential for integrating renewables and enhancing

Thailand's energy resilience." Overall, the panel underscored Thailand's pivotal role in shaping regional energy transition through the Eastern Economic Corridor.

Additional keynote sessions explored regional opportunities in renewables, hydrogen, and nuclear, alongside leveraging AI, digital technology, and energy storage for efficiency. Discussions highlighted retrofitting, co-firing, and transition fuels as interim measures to support ASEAN's diverse energy mix.
