New cross-university learning ecosystem empowers students to access courses, expertise, and experiences across Mahidol, Chulalongkorn, and Chiang Mai Universities

Three of Thailand's leading universities - Mahidol University, Chulalongkorn University, and Chiang Mai University - have launched MC? GenEd (Mahidol-Chula-Chiang Mai General Education), a pioneering academic initiative that allows students to learn across institutions, transfer credits seamlessly, and gain access to a wider range of expertise, disciplines, and real-world learning experiences.

Announced at the 40th edition of Chula The Impact under the theme "MC?: Beyond Boundaries, Building Future," the initiative marks a significant step toward transforming Thailand's higher education landscape through greater collaboration, flexibility and innovation.

Developed under the strategic MC? alliance, the programme aims to create a Shared Learning Ecosystem that breaks down traditional institutional boundaries and places learners at the centre of education. Undergraduate students from the three universities can enroll in selected General Education subjects offered by partner institutions, accumulate learning outcomes, and transfer credits according to each university's academic framework.

The initiative responds to growing demand for more flexible and interdisciplinary learning pathways that equip students with the knowledge, skills, and adaptability needed to thrive in an increasingly complex and technology-driven world.

In its initial phase, MC? GenEd offers 24 pilot subjects spanning humanities, social sciences, science, technology, innovation, sustainability, and future-focused competencies. Subjects are available through both online and onsite formats, enabling students to customize their learning journeys while benefiting from the distinctive strengths of each institution.

Beyond expanding academic choices, MC? GenEd promotes experiential and collaborative learning by bringing together students from different disciplines, backgrounds, and regions. Participants are encouraged to exchange perspectives, work across boundaries, and develop critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills that are increasingly essential in the future workforce.

Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, said the initiative reflects a new vision for education in the age of artificial intelligence and digital transformation.
