The developer community has always been an integral part of RIM’s success in the market. To build this relationship further, RIM is pleased to detail its commitment to developers creating apps for the BlackBerry 10 platform through two exciting initiatives: Built for BlackBerry and the $10K Developer Commitment.
From quality to creativity and to ingenuity, these two programs are aimed at helping developers bring their best apps the BlackBerry 10 platform.
Built for BlackBerry
The Built for BlackBerry program, which will be initiated this fall, will allow developers to submit their BlackBerry 10 apps for third-party review. From productivity apps to lifestyle apps to games, developers will be able to submit their BlackBerry? 10 WebWorks? or BlackBerry? 10 Native app(s) to the Built for BlackBerry program, and when cleared through the review, will receive the "Built for BlackBerry" quality status.
With the Built for BlackBerry designation, customers will be aware of the added level of evaluation the app has gone through and that it meets RIM's high standards for quality and performance.
Developers will be able to display this title on their website, on the BlackBerry App World? storefront, and anywhere else they market their apps. This is a great opportunity for professional developers to powerfully differentiate their apps on BlackBerry App World. The program will be free for now.
$10K Developer Commitment
RIM is confident that applications approved through the Built for BlackBerry program are destined for success, and is offering a $10k Developer Commitment to qualified developers.
Apps that have attained a Built for BlackBerry designation and submitted prior to the launch of BlackBerry 10, will be eligible for a top-up to $10,000 USD.
Over the period of 12 months from launch of BlackBerry 10, if the app earns at least $1,000 USD on its own but less than $10,000 USD, RIM will pay the developer the difference between the revenue earned and $10,000 USD. Developers are only eligible to receive this one time. In the event where the app earns less than $1,000 USD or more than $10,000USD, the app is not qualified to be part of the program.
