There will be Mrab Rally activity during the period. Mrab means tray of food using only for family members or relatives. It is made by bamboo basket. Arranging Mrab for the rally is to put foods and desserts in the basket level upon level. The lowest level is for dried food. The second level is for vegetable that can be preserved for a long time. Next level is daily use appliance. And then on the fourth level of Mrab is for desserts which are all signature ones made especially for the tenth month merit making. It is believed that all these foods, desserts and appliances are gathered for ancestors and relatives who have passed away to use after life. There will also be a performance entitled “Kin Mrab Dab Tee” as well as other traditional southern performances such as Ligor story, hungry ghost food setup, hungry ghost snatching, shadow play, Miss Nakhon Si Thammarat competition, to name a few. Nakhon Si Thammarat was usually known as Ligor to Portuguese merchants who have done business in the Kingdom during the time when King Ramathibodi II has reigned around 1518. People assumed that the name Ligor was the same word with “Nakhon”, a nickname of Nakhon Si Thammarat, pronounced distortedly by Portuguese merchants. In that very same period, there will be a Pak Panang food festival conducted as “The Paradise of Food” event. Located inside Fish Marketing Organization in Pak Panang which provides beautiful scenery of the district, the festival will have fresh seafood as well as cooked foods and O-Top products made by local fishermen and farmers. Next Saturday, on October 20, it is time for the first ever “Plai Dam-Sichon Tourist Festival”. Sichon is a district that has so many beautiful beaches especially around “Plai Dam hill”. That is why the beaches in the district included Sichon beach, Hin Ngam beach and Piti beach have been named “the Dragon of Southern Sea”. The festival will be conducted under the theme “the Land of Rock” where there will be rock music festival, big bike classic car caravan and canoe competition etc. On October 21-22, Nakhon Si Thammarat hosts the amazing “Land of Freedom” event inviting everyone to join an adventurous and natural tour in several attractions in the city. The event will end with a folk music performance in honour of the cultural history of the city. And then on October 27, it will be the time for “Heavenly Moon, Pink Dolphin” festival.
