Mr. Somchai Sujjapongse, Director-General of the Fiscal Policy Office of the Ministry of Finance of Thailand, Chair of the High-Level Finance Officials’ Meeting revealed result of the High-Level Finance Officials’ Meeting, held in the afternoon of 14 October 2012. Mr. Sujjapongse said that the meeting was comprised of high-level finance officials from 43 member countries and 7 International organisations, namely European Commission (EC), European Central Bank (ECB), International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO), and European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF). The meeting mainly discussed on the preparation for the 10th Asia-Europe Finance Ministers’ Meeting (10th ASEM FinMM), which will take place on 15 October 2012.
In this regards, the meeting also endorsed the agenda for the 10th ASEM FinMM, which will cover 3 main topics namely; (1) Economic and Financial Development and Prospects for Europe and Asia, where ASEM finance ministers will exchange views on economic situations and forecasts of Asia and Europe regions, (2) The Role of Regional Financial Arrangements in Europe and Asia in Ensuring Global Financial Stability, and (3) Asia and Europe Partnership for Enhancing Inter-regional Investment and Trade. Additionally, there will also be a report on update of Initiatives under ASEM Finance Ministers’ Meeting, including the result of the 9th ASEM Custom Directors-General and Commissioners Meeting, held in Hua Hin, Thailand during 11-12 October 2012.
In addition, high-level finance officials discussed the draft 10th ASEM Finance Ministers’ Meeting Chairman’s Statement, which will be presented to the Ministers’ Meeting tomorrow.
