Bangkok--18 Oct--Jigsaw Communication Johnson & Johnson Vision Care (JJVC) and Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) recently screened hundreds of children on World Sight Day to celebrate the milestone of screening more than 16 million children in Asia under the Sight for Kids, partnership program now marking its 10th anniversary. The event is part of an effort to provide free sight screening for another 1 million kids in six Asia Pacific countries during 2012 alone. By training teachers and Lions clubs volunteers to conduct Sight for Kids vision screenings in schools, local students with potential visual impairments areidentified and referred to eye care professionals for diagnosis treatment and eyeglasses as needed. Sight for Kids was first launched in Thailand in 2002 and todayis one of the longest running and largest international school vision-screening programs that continues to operate as a public-private initiative across multiple countries, including developing countries.The program has trained more than 110,000 Lions, school teachers, and other volunteers to assist with vision screening and provide eye health education at26,000 schools.
