The Asia Fitness Convention 2012 (AFC 2012) kicked off today attended by 700 fitness enthusiasts and world-class health professionals from North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Pattaya, one of Thailand’s most popular seaside destinations. The Opening Ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Mayor of Pattaya City, Mr. Wattana Chantanawaranon.
Deputy Mayor of Pattaya City, Mr. Wattana Chantanawaranon noted, “The Asia Fitness Convention is an event that is establishing Thailand as a leading beacon in developing the fitness industry in the Asia-Pacific region, and we are extremely proud that this event is taking place in Thailand again for the fourth consecutive year”.
“In promoting good health practices among adolescents and ensuring that they are aware of what the health risks are, holding fitness forums such as the Asia Fitness Convention is one of the best ways to educate people in the benefits of keeping fit and leading a healthy lifestyle”, the Deputy Mayor of Pattaya added.
Now regarded as Asia’s premier teaching, learning, and networking extravaganza for the fitness industry, the 3-day event will see over 40 renowned international presenters leading a wide range of sessions such as Human Movement specialist, Dr. Emily Splichal reinforcing ‘Barefoot Power’, Mindy Mylrea and Lawrence Biscontini in ‘Group X’, Valerie Grant doing ’Feldenkrais’, Diane Vives, Nick Clayton and Peter Twist showcasing Sports Conditioning, Chris and Kara Morh and Douglas Kalamnin on Nutrition, Sally Belanger of Stott for Pilates, Douglas Brooks and Helen Vanderburg on BOSU, to name just a few to update participants on the latest exercise regimes, techniques, equipment and nutrition.
Also attending the event and introducing Parkour, the art of free running, to Asia for the first time, will be Stephane Vigroux, Director of Parkour Generation. Stephane has been displaying Parkour in the world media for over a decade, having worked as both a performer and consultant for a long list of companies including Nike, Adidas, Toyota, Ford and Redbull and on such high-profile projects as Channel 4’s award-winning documentary Jump London and Luc Besson’s District 13, and will be training participants on how to move around obstacles in both the natural and urban environments with speed and efficiency.
Furthermore, one of the most successful trainers and performance coaches of all time, Peter Twist, President and CEO of Twist Conditioning, Inc., has flown into Thailand especially to attend the AFC 2012, and is testimonial of this year’s theme of “Inspiration + Passion = Transformation”, having himself recently overcome cancer.
Other highlights and fun activities for AFC 2012 participants are the first-ever “Fitness Idol Contest”, a competition for delegates with a chance to be “discovered” as a future presenter of AFC 2013, “So You Think You Are Fit”, “Biggest Winner” and, of course, the traditional Saturday Night Party.
