His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Srirasm and His Royal Highness Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti, presided over the Royal Launch of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited’s (THAI) two newest aircraft at a ceremony held at THAI’s Hangar, Technical Department, Suvarnabhumi Airport. Her Excellency Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Minister of the Ministry of Transport, Mr. Ampon Kittiampon, THAI Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Dr. Sorajak Kasemsuvan, THAI President, Members of THAI’s Board of Directors, THAI Management, and guests of honor joined in welcoming His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn.
Dr. Sorajak Kasemsuvan, THAI President, said that THAI is in the process of acquiring new aircraft and decommissioning old aircraft as part of its aircraft acquisition plan that will boost its competitiveness. THAI’s new aircraft types, the Airbus A380-800 and Boeing 777-300ER, are fully equipped with state-of-the-art products and services, which makes travel more convenient for passengers. It is a great honor for THAI that His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn graciously presided over the Royal Launch of THAI’s first Airbus A380-800 and first Boeing 777-300ER with the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Srirasm and His Royal Highness Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti.
The Airbus A380-800 is the largest passenger airplane in the world and THAI will have a total of six Airbus A380-800 in its fleet. THAI’s first Airbus A380-800 was royally bestowed the name “Si Rattana,” which was delivered at the end of September 2012 and has been operating on the route Bangkok-Hong Kong and Bangkok-Singapore since 6 October 2012. Once the second Airbus A380-800 is delivered, the two aircraft will operate roundtrip on the route Bangkok-Frankfurt and Bangkok-Hong Kong in December 2012. In January 2013, the Airbus A380-800 will operate on the route Bangkok-Narita, and then will serve the Bangkok-Paris route in February 2013. The remaining two aircraft will be delivered at the end of 2013. THAI’s Airbus A380-800 makes travel more comfortable and convenient for passengers with personal entertainment screens in all classes of travel, more spacious passenger cabin, and using environmentally friendly technology.
THAI’s Boeing 777-300ER aircraft will be operated on regional and intercontinental flights. THAI received delivery of first Boeing 777-300ER in August 2012, which was royally bestowed the name “Philavan” and is operated roundtrip on the route Bangkok-Narita. The second Boeing 777-300ER was recently delivered to THAI at the end of October 2012 and will serve the route Bangkok-Seoul-Los Angeles and Bangkok-Tokyo. The remaining six Boeing 777-300ER will be delivered in 2013.
