Bangkok--6 Dec--Brand Now Bangkok International Preparatory & Secondary School (Bangkok Prep) recently launched its 10th anniversary celebrations with a special Founding Day Ceremony on November 7th 2012. Founding Day celebrates the school’s groundbreaking 10 years ago, when the first stone was laid on the then 2-rai plot in Sukhumvit Soi 53. The school first opened its classroom doors in 2003 to 7 teachers and 7 students. Today, Bangkok Prep, situated on a 7-rai plot, is recognised as a leading private co-educational mid-sized school in Bangkok, based on the National Curriculum of England. The celebrations kicked off with a school wide assembly which included speeches by Bangkok Prep’s Headmaster, Mr Keith Wecker and Chairman of the Board, Assoc Prof Dr Anumongkol Sirivedhin. This was followed by a moving speech by Year 12 student, Tristan Cloa, who joined the school in its first year. Tristan reflected on his first day at Bangkok Prep and thanked his parents for “having faith in the tiny blue school down at 53 which has grown into the best mid-sized school in Bangkok”. The ceremony included outstanding musical performances by secondary students and the Secondary String Orchestra, as well as the Primary Performance Choir and a harp solo by Year 10 student, Prow Janjarussakul. Commemorative coins were also presented to the founding students by Board member, Prof Dr Boonserm Weesakul as a memento of their first day in school. Following the ceremony, all the students gathered at the field where they displayed a unified spirit and formed a number 10 for an aerial photo shoot. The highlight of the celebration was the time capsule burial where representatives of the school community including management, staff, students and parents were asked to prepare significant objects to place in the capsule, which would be opened in the next 10 years in 2022. Some of the items placed inside the capsule included a copy of the Bangkok Post, a 100 Baht note with exchange rate details, the cost of everyday food items, a school uniform, favourite books and games chosen by students, Secondary Student Council’s minutes of meeting, students’ impressions of what the school will look like at the 20th anniversary in 2022 and the keynote speech given by H.E. Mr Abhisit Vejjajiva at the school’s inaugural graduation ceremony in June 2012. In including her foot impression artwork on canvas into the capsule, the youngest student Jesita Phornprapha, age 3, said “I can’t wait to see how big my feet would grow when I will be 13! ” The event rounded off with a “Founding Menu” which included a menu similar to that provided on the school’s opening day together with ice-cream and special 10th anniversary cupcakes. A number of exciting events have been planned next year to celebrate the school’s 10 amazing years. This includes a Gala event with Bangkok Prep’s school community and the release of a commemorative 10th anniversary book and a multicultural cookbook.
