Singapore Tourism Board (STB) invites holidaymakers to celebratethe yuletide season in style and enjoy the ‘Moment of Celebration’ inSingapore during thismuch-loved ‘Christmas in the Tropics’ season. Visitors can look forward to perennial favourites, such as the annual Christmas light-ups and a myriad of lifestyle activities and retail promotions, as well as exciting new shows and events to wave goodbye to 2012 and greet the New Year in the most memorable fashion.
Ms. Ashlynn Loo, STB’s Area Director for Thailand and Myanmar, said about the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebration: “Singaporewelcomes visitors with the most impressive ‘Moment of Celebration’through Singapore’s much-loved ‘Christmas in the Tropics’ from 17 November 2012 to 6 January 2013. Visitors will find themselves soaking in an exuberance ambience filled with happiness and joy as they take in the dazzling street decorations across the island; from shopping streets like our world-famous Orchard Road, ethnic precincts such as Chinatown and Little India to key landmarks and scenic spots, including the Merlion Park and Marina Bay. Every year, we seek to dazzle visitors and give everyone one of their most memorable holiday experiences. In addition to creating this joyous atmosphere, an exciting and event-packedprogrammeis in place to enliven visitors’ stay during this celebrative season. Key highlights includelive musicperformances byworld-class artists, the globally renowned dance music festival on the beach, ZoukOut and the spectacular Marina Bay Singapore Countdown event.”

- Street Light-ups and Decorations
Orchard Road’s signature festive light-up, Christmas on a Great Street, will bathe visitors with the heartwarming spirit of Christmas time through a dazzling splendour of colours and millions of decorative lights. It will span three zones and have different motifs representing the light-up theme’s three main messages; the Tree for Joy in the Tanglin zone, the Heart for Love at Orchard, and Dove for Peace at Somerset. Shops, hotels and restaurants along the shopping strip will be in their holiday finest to impress visitors. They will also delight shoppers with special offers for this holiday period to make sure that everyone completes their shopping mission, whether they’re looking for a souvenir or wish items from luxurious brands to reward themselves or give to their loved ones aspresent. The ornamental installment will be officiallylaunched on 17 November 2012 and remains until 6 January 2013.
The year-end bliss in Marina Bay will see adornments all over the places.A number of music performances and other shows will also take place here, including Singapore Symphony Orchestra Christmas Concert 2012 on 13-14 December at Esplanade Concert Hall and Santa Claus the Musical on 13 December 2012 — 6 January 2013 at Grand Theatre inMarina Bay Sands. On top of that, shopping malls and department stores as well as shops in Marina Bay have come together to offer a special shopping promotion.
The Christmas and New Year celebration at SentosaHarbourFront precinct features asynchronised light-uptogether with a programme of magnificent shows, from the enchanting Christmas village at the Jewel Box and the charming PLAYMOBIL-themed Christmas tree and life-sized PLAYMOBIL Santa and his reindeers at Sentosato the visual spectacle of lights over at VivoCity in ‘ILLUMINATE! The Light of Christmas comes to Vivocity’,a specially choreographed musical featuring sand art, music, dance and amazing light-inspired specialty acts that will take place on 7-14 December 2012. Visitors can also enjoy a beautiful panoramic view on Singapore Cable and see spectacular fireworks in bird’s eye view from The Jewel Box. Another highlight isthe Grand Opening celebrations of Resort World Sentosa, including the official opening of Marine Life Park,the largest oceanarium in the world. With exhibition areas of more than 49 hectares, the new attraction of Singapore will be inaugurated on 7 December 2012, allowing visitors to closely observe lives of more than 100,000 aquatic animals from 800 species. In addition, Resort World Sentosa has also created a new, world-class show called ‘Incanto’. This is a theatrical magic show that will take the audience on an adventure and get excited with mysteries and fearsome stories waiting to be uncovered. The new show programmeruns from today until 31 December this year at Festive Grand Theatre.
- Grandiose New Year Countdown
The Marina Bay Singapore Coundown is a renowned New Year’s Eve party on Marina Bay that attracts a multitude of international visitors each year. Besides the highlight of this year’s event, which is kept secret as a gimmick of the countdown party, visitors can revel in live music performances of leading artists and be amazed by awe-inspiring light and sound show as well as spellbinding fireworks that will promise an exciting and memorable experience for all participants. The party will take place at Marina Bay Floating Platform on 31 December 2012 and continue until dawn of 1 January 2013.
- Major Clubbing Events for Party Lovers
Music and dance revelers must not miss Singapore’s most anticipated outdoor dance party, ZoukOut, on Sentosa’sSiloso Beach. A globally-renowned annual party, the two-night fun starts at 21:00 hr on 7 December until 04:00 hr on 8 December and resumes from 20:00 hr on 8 December until 08:00 hr on 9 December. The dance music festival features world-class acts that span house, techno, trance, hip hop, electro and pop. Its lineup of famous artists and DJs this year includes DJ.Avicii from Sweden, British metal band Above & Beyond, and DJ Hardwell and DJ Kaskadewho will keep clubbers under the spell of their electronic dance music. ThemedHYDRO PARTY, it offers 12 hours of non-stop action in a variety of party styles—Gigantic Foam Pool, Wet Dance Zone and Water Drums—at five distinct party zones, from the entrance zone to AzzuraBeach Club and then Caf? del Mar, Coastes and Wave House Sentosa.
