Airbnb, the world’s leading marketplace to list, discover and book unique accommodations, has announced that bookings in Thailand have jumped dramatically since it officially announced its launch in Bangkok. For New Year’s Eve, more than 500 bookings are forecast on the fast growing website with visitors targeting stays in Bangkok, Phuket and other provinces.
The company said that Bangkok is still the most popular city in Thailand for travelers for New Year’s Eve, followed by Phuket, Chiang Mai and Koh Samui.
Nathan Blecharczyk, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Airbnb said “Thailand is a premier travel destination in the world especially during holiday season. The response from travelers is fantastic, and we expect Thailand to be a major growth area for our business in the future.”
This year, Airbnb has over 140,000 nights booked for New Year’s Eve in 192 countries around the world.
Airbnb is currently the world market leader in unique, short-term accommodations. In June the company celebrated 10 million nights booked, and on any given night, over 50,000 guests are staying at Airbnb accommodations around the world.
Airbnb has over 1300 listings in Thailand, including 400 in Bangkok, 250 in Phuket, and 170 in Koh Samui.
Airbnb is also available for download in mobile application on both iOS and Android platforms. The app was named iTunes’ Travel App of the Year.
