Tesco Lotus has announced a doubling in value of produce sourced from the Royal Project Foundation to 60 million baht this year. To kick off the Royal Project product promotion Tesco Lotus has organised “Fresh from the Northern Hills” festival offering over 50 varieties of fruit and vegetables at special prices until the end of January.
Royal Projects Foundation Marketing Director Prof Dr Kampon Adunwit said, “Tesco Lotus has been a trusted partner of the Royal Project Foundation for many years with its determination to bring high quality produce to consumers. This year, the Royal Project Foundation is delighted that Tesco Lotus has committed to doubling its purchases of our fruit and vegetables to sell in Tesco Lotus stores nationwide to over 60 million baht. This will benefit both farmers and consumers who are looking for high quality produce.”
Tesco Lotus Trading Director for Fresh Food Mark Murphy noted, “We have been in a continuous partnership with the Royal Project Foundation for over 12 years, which shows our commitment to support Thai agricultural sector. Tesco Lotus has bought more produce from the Royal Project Foundation than anyone else in the industry, and now we have doubled our commitments to buy. This is in line with our ‘Freshness Guaranteed’ project to upgrade the quality standards of our fresh food, which was launched at the end of 2012 with an investment of 1 billion baht.”
Tesco Lotus plans a year-long series of promotions on Royal Project produce, starting with “Royal Project Vegetables Fresh from the Northern Hills Festival” held throughout the month of January. This features 50 product lines including baby tangerines, Japanese pumpkin, strawberries and asuki beans, discounted by 10-15%. Shoppers buying asuki beans will get another pack free during the festival period.
Tesco Lotus specifies purchase volumes in advance to help the Royal Project growers plan their production efficiently. Tesco Lotus also works with the Royal Project Foundation to develop products in line with market demand by giving marketing and consumer information beneficial for farmers. Tesco Lotus also gives advice on growing and harvesting for growers to get produce that meets international standards of quality and safety, as well as cooperating on developing packaging and transportation to Tesco Lotus Distribution Centres. These joint efforts will ensure that consumers get the fresh and high quality fruit and vegetables they need.
