Restaurant offerings and hotel packages to choose from
The Peninsula Bangkok invites guests and Bangkok residents to celebrate the Chinese New Year 2013 with a range of food and beverage offerings at its restaurants, as well as enticing hotel packages.
Chinese New Year is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays and on Chinese New Year’s Eve, families gather for their annual reunion dinner. Celebrated in countries with significant Chinese populations such as Thailand, the origin of Chinese New Year is centuries old and has gained significance because of several myths and traditions. Within China, regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration of the Chinese New Year vary widely. People buy presents, decorations, food and clothing. It is also traditional for every family to thoroughly clean the house in order to sweep away any ill-fortune and to make way for incoming good luck. Children greet their parents by wishing them a healthy and happy New Year and receive money in red paper envelopes. The Chinese New Year tradition is to forget all grudges and sincerely wish peace and happiness for everyone.
Two special set menus are on offer at Mei Jiang Chinese restaurant between 2 and 12 February 2013 - the Fortune menu priced at THB 2,280* per person and the Wealth menu priced at THB 2,680* per person.
The Fortune menu includes such delights as Yu Shang salmon sashimi with shredded mixed vegetables, stewed sun-dried oyster with sea moss and shiitake mushrooms, deep-fried fillet of garoupa topped with sweet and sour hawthorn sauce and pine nuts, and sweetened red bean cream with sesame dumplings.
The Wealth menu includes double-boiled Matsutake mushrooms with deluxe fish maw and capon chicken, braised sliced abalone with sun-dried oyster and sea moss, pan-seared Australian pork tenderloin in red wine sauce, and stir-fried twin rice noodles with roasted duck and mushrooms.
Making for a wonderful afternoon on Sunday, 10 February 2013 is the Chinese New Year Brunch at the River Cafe and Terrace from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm and priced at THB 1,500* per person.
Available from 1 to 28 February is the Peninsula Chinese Afternoon Tea, priced at THB 888* per person. It features a delightful selection of sweets including mango pudding, lotus and sesame dumplings and traditional egg tarts, Chinese mandarin scones, BBQ-pork pastries, wok-fried boneless chicken ‘Peking-style on Szechuan pepper bread and seared Chinese turnip pudding with XO Sauce.
The Peninsula Bangkok is also offering hotel packages for Chinese New Year, valid from 1 to 28 February 2013.
